From Tazo

All Natural

A delicate tea with notions of fresh apricot and Tahitian vanilla.

Antioxidants within

Tazo® Vanilla Apricot White mixes prized Chinese tea buds plucked in the splendor of their youth, alluring hints of creamy Tahitian vanilla and notes of fresh, juicy apricots in a golden brew that positively glows in the cup. After a long sip, you may detect a certain glow in your aura as well. But that could just be the tea talking.

Did you know? In China, apricots symbolize health. In the 2nd century A.D., patients of Dr. Tung Fung could plant apricot trees to pay for his services, though referrals weren’t covered.

I could have sworn I reviewed this already…

I’m not a huge lover of Tazo teas in general, but when I saw a 20 filterbag box of this on clearance last month for $2.96(on a trip to the U.S.), I couldn’t resist giving it a try. As expected of a white tea, it has lightness to it; both in color and in taste, but the flavors of the tea, vanilla, and apricot are nicely balanced. The aroma is wonderfully fruity, and on several occasions it proved to be a good tea option for guests who are intimidated by my loose leaf collection.

For best results I don’t let the water get anywhere near the boiling point, otherwise I find it can turn bitter. I also have to be careful not to over-steep this one, which is one of my bad habits that I haven’t consistently dropped yet. What can I say…life is just too distracting.

I’m finishing this box today, which on one hand is a good thing, because I’m trying to finish off some of the odds and ends of tea before the big move in a few weeks, but if I see it at the clearance price again, I’ll have a hard time resisting a repurchase(I love clearance stuff). It’s a good convenient bagged tea, but on the down side it has some flaws: the tendency to go bitter when the steeping parameters are a little off; it tastes like a Spring/Summer tea, and won’t fare well in my cupboard year round; and it doesn’t resteep well. So I can happily resist buying this at full price.

So far I’ve been good(ish) with not buying more tea over the past few weeks, but sometimes I feel like I should be in a support group :P

I like apricot, and this one smells nice. I decided to try it as a cold- brew. It has a light, creamy fruit flavour. Most refreshing.

Incredible iced. Its sweet, clean, and bright. If I was to make iced tea for a party, I would stock up on this and it would be the talk of the town. Guaranteed.

Make it iced and you don’t think you’re drinking bagged tea.

Make it hot, though, and everything changes. The sweet, fresh apricot sweetness disappears and it gets muted and everything turns thin. That nice and clean mouthfeel that mixed so naturally with the flavors when cold, gets turned down and becomes boring. Unfortunate.

Cold brew and smile.

Make it hot and wrinkle your brow.

I don’t really like the base tea here. The cream flavor is fake, but nice. I also don’t like the apricot flavor. It’s a bit too artificial for me. Thanks for sharing anyway getanzt! I wouldn’t mind seeing them use this creme flavor in some other blends.

I can’t believe it was June when I had it! I thought it was a few months later, maybe October? No-way!

Anyway, this time, from Devon’s calendar — thank you, I feel it was fruitier and mellow, but no cream nor vanilla here. It was stronger in apricots only.

Also, dry bag smelled like a play-doh. Sadly, it is pretty much average from both attempts.

2020 Advent Swap – Day 10

I liked the description of this but don’t care for it. If you like it, you’re welcome to the rest of the box!

I have to say, this has to be the most authentic apricot flavoring I’ve experienced. Now, I’m not sure how many teas I’ve had that included apricot, maybe none, but the aroma here is undeniably that of dried apricots. This is, I’m sure of it, the only apricot tea I’ve had where apricot is meant to be the star flavor. If I have had it before, it would have been mixed in with other stone fruits and likely lost behind the peach or cherry flavors. So this was a happy surprise. It also smells quite sweet and, bummer, like a bar of soap. Not hand soap or dish soap – specifically a bar of unscented Dove soap. Interesting. Thankfully, no soap in the taste. It’s back to the apricot again. For a white tea, it has a fair amount of flavor, but it’s still not enough for me. Not a bad cup for the morning, but it’s not something I would buy for myself. I hope you can find someone else who will enjoy it, Devon Bartholomew!

First off, I can tell this tea is a little delicate. I steeped it for 2 minutes and its showing signs of just a tad bitterness. I had to add some sugar to get much flavour at all with this tea. It was very bland without it. Now I can somewhat taste the apricot and vanilla. It’s there, but I definitely taste the white tea base. It isn’t a bad tea, but in my opinion it could be better.

This is the Ingrid Michaelson of teas, by which I mean it’s very sweet and delicate.
There will be times that it’s perfect. Today is such a time, with a leisurely pace of tasks to be completed, pop music on the speakers, sun outside.
This is not frantic-day tea, or heavy-metal tea, or tea-with-cigarette.
This is not breakup-tea, or fresh-romance tea.
This is the tea of a nicely-settled life, with a dusting of optimism on top.

Love this note. :)

Aww. I love Ingrid Michaelson. My wife and I danced to one of her songs at our wedding. On purpose.

Super Starling!

Was it the one about giving everyone nice sweaters and teaching them how to dance?

mtchyg

No, it was “The Way I Am.” But I do love “You and I” as well. It’s a fun one to play on guitar/ukulele

Super Starling!

“You and I” was my best friend & her husband’s song. They had their iPod on shuffle while she was giving birth, and it just happened to be the song that she gave birth to their first child to.

mtchyg

Well that’s just adorable.

It’s cloyingly sweet in aroma and that artificial taste when it’s hot. However, I’d imagine this is easily enjoyed iced. I just can’t drink hot sweet teas. They’re like drinking potpourri.
