From Tazo

Tazo Zen is created using select full-flavored, pan-fired green teas from China, long fabled for their legendary properties. These teas converge with lemon verbena leaves, lemongrass and spearmint leaves in a blissful state. This distinctive flavor is nearly impossible to express in words; it is best to simply experience its sweet, lingering taste.

This was my first Zen Full Leaf tea experience. I have certainly imbibed plenty of this tea iced during summertime, and plenty of the filter bags at home. Today’s sachet format produced an unexpectedly tasty cup at my local Starbucks. The liquor is darker than that for the Green Tips, and the flavor more complex, but this is not just green tea. There’s also lemongrass and spearmint and lemon verbena in fairly hefty doses.

I was careful to follow my newly discovered method, using a ceramic mug in the store, so that the water was cooled a bit before the steep. I also removed the sachet after only a couple of minutes. It was much better than I remember Zen being before, so I attribute this higher quality experience to the full leaves.

The teabag NOT full leaf blend of tazo zen was one of my first tea loves. It was the first tea that made me realize that there was more then lipton.

I had this a few days ago at starbucks for my afternoon cup. It was the whole leaf variety. I only steeped it for about two minutes because the water they put it in is VERY hot, likely higher then what I would do for green tea.

I love the green tea minty goodness. Oh, the joy of a first tea love!

I don’t know how else to describe this tea other than EXHILARATING. I allow the tea leaves to steep for quite a long time (about 5-7 minutes) because I love the strength of it. The aroma of the brew is chiefly composed of spearmint, and to me it is relaxing. I love to breathe in the vapors of my tea while it is yet too hot to drink. The first sip is a harmonious blend of spearmint and a slight note of lemongrass. As the tea gradually cools down to optimal drinking temperature, the lemongrass is more noticeable. The green tea flavors are strong throughout. Overall this is a very stimulating tea… it is mentally energizing and physically relaxing at the same time. I enjoy my Zen tea with a slight drizzle of honey.

I’ve been meaning to try the loose-leaf version of this one. I’ve had it made for me at Starbucks and I’ve had the bagged form, but I bet this is better.

It is much better loose leaf, just like most teas. I first had this it at Starbucks too and fell in love with it!

Another tea I have been gravitating to whilst being sick.

Forgot to say before: Happy New Year everyone. We rang in the new year cuddling with our colds… so romantic I know.

I like the flavour of this green tea and it’s a good option if you’re looking for a flavoured green tea, but not something over the top.

At Starbucks across from my school. Not horrible, at least it’s caffeine.

I had this tea at Starbucks the other day and it was very good. The spearmint adds a bit of a kick, yet it is very calming a at the same time. I think they have done a pretty good job since they introduced the full leaf teas a few years ago, and not nearly as “dusty” tasting as the previous iteration.

Iced, it is quite tasty, again with the spearmint giving it a refreshing aspect. The barrista can also add lemonade, and though it is kind of fake tasting, it is still quite yummy.

I find this one very bitter when over-steeped, so I have a very short steep time when having it hot.

The lemongrass is not doing anything for me, today. Too much of it in the tea.
Should have gone with China Green Tips, while I was at Starbucks.

A decent green tea with hints of mint and lemongrass. Good with a bit of honey and lemon, especially when one has a cold.

This is one of those teas that I am always very excited about when I plan to have it sometime during the day. Imagine my excitement when I find a tin of this in the cupboard at my new work office the other day! I have been drinking Zen for a few years now, ever since I discovered it at Starbucks, where I also used to work (and developed a special love for Tazo teas). Every time I open the tin, the bright and fresh aroma of the tea just washes all over me, wakes up my senses and lifts my spirits!

The steeping time for this particular tea is quite short, only about 2-3 mins – otherwise is takes on a strong and slightly off-putting bitter taste. When steeped just right, the flavours are simply amazing – the most delicate balance of minty green tea with a kick of citrus and lemon! Honestly, how can you go wrong with this one? It’s my absolute favourite, and it will be part of my collection forever. :)
