Our Golden Yunnan is made from the ancient tea trees of Yunnan. Known for their robust and strong flavours these leaves make the prefect foundation for this tea. Golden Yunnan perfectly blends the resilient flavour of the mature leaves and the sweet delicate taste of the buds. This results in a wonderfully full bodied flavour. That’s the great thing about samples! You can try a little and if it’s not one you like you’re not stuck with 50 grams of it.

Enjoyed this as a wake-up tea this morning. Solid choice for a straightforward, non-complicated, medium-bodied cup to ease the eyes open. A little malty and a very nice apricot note, which is a bonus I love to find in a black.

Well crap, this was in my untrieds box, but I have tried it before. I steeped this for 3 min at 96C, and it’s totally mediocre – a bit bitter and astringent, kind of generic tasting. But I see that last time I had this it had a really amazing finish, which this cup does not have, and that Ubacat recommended trying a lower temperature.

Might need to try resteeping and/or making a fresh up when I finish this one up.

Hrrm, resteep of these leaves isn’t much better. And I think I want something else for my next cup.

I really need to check Steepster before making… anything, really. Might as well take advantage of the collected wisdom here (and sometimes my own notes!)

its either lower the temp or less time. 3 min is too much for this tea ;-)

Oh, the difference a minute or so can make! Generally, Tao’s Golden Yunnan has a rich, dark wood and fruitiness. It is a very good breakfast tea. Distracted and agitated this morning, walked off without watching the clock and now we have rained-on cowboy boots that have made one too many trips through the barnyard. (OK, I’m exaggerating a little, but it’s dark and strong!)

It’s just been that kind of week, and a strong sign that I should just rely on my can’t-mess-it-up teas until the weekend :)
