From T2

Don’t wait till you hit the cinema to get that drool-worthy popcorn fix! Malty black tea, puffed buckwheat and nutty caramel flavours make for a rich tea time treat, perfect to wrap your mitts around – and doubly delicious with a splash of milk!

Mastress Alita’s sipdown challengeTuesday, January 19th: National Popcorn Day Tea #1

Six days since I posted a tea note!  (Thanks, freezes.)  This is from AJRimmer so a genuine thank you for the tea.  haha.  This blend has plenty of buckwheat which apparently looks like popcorn, but it certainly somehow smells like fresh popcorn!  Sadly the taste isn’t as strong as the fragrance.  It’s slightly popcorn on a weak black tea.  And I thought I used a lot of leaf so the flavor definitely should have been stronger than this.  The description also mentions caramel but I don’t notice that at all. It’s not bad but not something I would be gravitating towards to steep up.  The second steep is also bland.
Steep #1 // 1 3/4 teaspoons for a full mug // 19 minutes after boiling // 2 minute steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // 4 minute steep

I once had a sencha with soba (buckwheat) in it instead of genmai, and it always tasted like peanuts to me! It was definitely a “sweeter” sort of nutty taste to me than genmai produces. I liked it! But I wonder if a black base would overwhelm it?

Cameron B.

It’s been a while since I last had soba cha, I really like it!

This black base is weaker, so I don’t think it’s overwhelming much.

This was an add on purchase to my advent calendar to get me to the free shipping bar! The advent is huge and prettier than I had expected. This is the first T2 I think I have ever had and I love the idea of pop corn/caramel corn flavored tea. Unfortunately the translation didn’t quite work out. It has little popped bits in the mix, but the flavor is light powder. Like baby powder, which make me think of teas I’ve tried that were supposed to be almond, but came off powdery instead. It’s very strange, but didn’t stop me from drinking the whole cup.
And let’s talk packaging! This was a bag that can’t reseal in a box that looks like a popcorn box inside a sleek looking black box inside a brown box inside the giant box the whole order was delivered in. The amount of packaging compared to the amount of tea was phenomenal!
I’m super excited to break into this advent to try a bunch of their teas and really hope that this one falling flat is a fluke. Fingers crossed!

T2’s packaging (as well as the fact that they only sell 99% of their stuff in 100g as the minimum size, which I hate) is the main reason I hardly ever purchase from them. Most of their tea is in an non-sealable plastic bag and then inside a cardboard “cube”, so anything you purchase from then has to be repackaged into either a tin or a re-sealable foil pouch.

I put a ton of leaf in the cup, but even so, the brew turned out a bit weak, like murky dishwater. It’s better with milk. It mostly tastes like mild toastiness. The black tea is not very present. I love a toasty tea, but this is one of the weaker ones I’ve had. I haven’t loved any of the T2 teas I’ve tried. Yet I still made an order yesterday when they were having a sale. I am weak. Like this tea.
