I could see myself ordering the loose version of this, or even the bags to toss in a purse to take for after dinner when eating out.

I’ve been drinking this before bed, I am on the verge of being an insomniac and someone at work said I should try peppermint tea before sleep. I’m not sure if it’s helping me sleep, but damn, it is very delicious and REFRESHING. I’ve had various peppermint teas in the past, but this one was the first one that left me like: damn, this is refreshing, I AM REFRESHED.

off topic: I saw Parasite last night and I want to see it five more times. I love Bong Joon-ho so much.
I use peppermint tea for upset stomach/digestive issues (which come from my chronic migraines). The refreshingness of it makes it very nice as an iced tea, too; just stick a teabag (or two) in a water bottle overnight and it’s a great iced tea.
To actually help with sleep? Valerian root does the trick with me. It doesn’t taste the best, but pairing it with mint and lavender seems to help with that. It really knocks me out. I know some folks prefer chamomile and pair it with that instead, but I don’t like the taste of chamomile, myself (SST’s chamomile blend is “Meadow” which, I’d have to say, is one of the only chamomile teas I can even stomach, because SST is kinda magic that way).
Nice, bright peppermint with a grassy note. I don’t know if I’ve had peppermint leaves from the Northwest before. It’s a very pleasant taste, much nicer than peppermint starlight candy or minty toothpaste. Heck, I don’t even use minty toothpaste any more. Bleh.
I remember my favorite tea with peppermint was an herbal from Peet’s, from when they made their own teas, called Xiao’s Blend. It had chamomile and peppermint. Oh hey, they still sell it online, interesting. By the pound?! Is it made by Mighty Leaf? So many questions. Would probably be easy enough to approximate with bulk chamomile and peppermint leaves.
Anyway, got off track there. This tea is good. I’ve now tried each type from my Steven Smith sampler, time to make an order to stock the tea shelf at the office.

The leaf is from the PNW? I wonder if it’s the same source as Two Leaves and a Bud’s peppermint. That stuff blows me away.

Since SST is a Portland-based brand, I’m not surprised they are using PNW peppermint. I’m pretty sure Jasmine Pearl and other Portland-area tea blenders use peppermint from the area as well. Living in a PNW state, I approve.
Still surprised that neither of SST’s hibi blends were in the sampler, though! I think I have one sample bag of them I got through a trade I have yet to try (Big Hibiscus and Red Nectar, I believe were the blend names). I also still have some samples of a few of their other blacks and whites… I don’t have it, but I really want to try their rose genmaicha one day!

I ended up with a sachet of this as a free sample with my most recent order. Normally, I tend to avoid herbal teas. It is not that I truly dislike them so much as I just do not go out of my way to buy them all that often. Still, since last night was unseasonably cold and windy, and quite frankly, I felt like utter crap, I decided that maybe a cup of peppermint tea would not be a bad thing.
The tea shows a yellowish green in the glass. The first thing I noticed on the nose was the exceptionally pure, clean smell of peppermint. It’s an unmistakable aroma and one that is extremely pleasant and soothing. In the mouth, I immediately detected clean peppermint notes. Around mid-palate, I picked up some mild grassy notes and a little bit of cream. The finish was clean, smooth, and mild with a soothing mixture of peppermint, grass, and cream.
Honestly, I do not understand the relatively low score for this tea. It’s true that it isn’t the most complex tea in the world, but then again, what peppermint tea is? This tea does exactly what it’s supposed to do: deliver the aroma and taste of fresh peppermint. Compared to so many other readily available peppermint teas, this one is clean and smooth with no muddiness or off flavors. What more can one really ask for from a product of this type?

If you like mint, you’ll like this tea. It’s strong without being overpowering, as creamy as the box claims, and leaves you with a fresh feeling in your mouth. I didn’t pick up on the chocolatey notes, but unlike other mint teas that are weak or synthetic tasting, this was strong and pure. I liked it.
