I love eucalyptus in teas, but it doesn’t seem very common. So of course I had to throw in a few ounces of this in my Steep City order! Usually you find eucalyptus in herbal blends, not black ones, and the name and colors are so appealing. All of the blends I’ve tried from them are so beautiful, this is no exception: the bits of purple and orange are just so striking.

I tried this one iced in my travel mug, since I’m not sure if this is a blend I’d like hot. Also, I’m totally in love with finally being able to take tea with me everywhere! This reminds me a lot of Zen Tea’s Grapefruit Orange, since they share many of the same elements, namely eucalyptus and citrus. This blend is very assertive, not for the faint of heart! Orange and lemongrass are bright and sparkling, backed up by that unique herby menthol flavor from the eucalyptus.

The black base makes this a bit more earthy and grounded than the tisanes I’ve tried with eucalyptus, though it’s still very strong. With all the different strong flavors and colors it really does remind me of a carnival!

I recently had Eucalyptus in a black tea, Contessa Grey by Gryphon. Not sure whether you’ll be able to find some easily (I only had 2 bags and have already used them both); my review was not so enthusiastic because I guess I don’t like to drink eucalyptys outside of cough syrup… But it seemed ver natural and fresh.

Alphakitty

I’ve actually been hunting for that tea for a while, it seems nearly impossible to find!

LaFleurBleue

Not too difficult here in Singapore, even though not all places sell all varieties and the prices can vary a lot, as I saw the same box with 20 bags selling from ~15 SGD to 19 SGD (USD 12 to 15.50). Yeah I know the price seem crazy, the appreciation of the SGD vs. the USD and Euro over the last years also makes it not cheap at all to shop here.
If your craving gets stronger than yourself, let me know and we’ll try to find out something that might do it. For your information, I go only every few months to the “cheapest” seller area, and should not go there before end of April though).

Alphakitty

Oh, yes, I’d love if you’d pick some up for me! Let me know the next time you’re going to be getting tea from them and I will soot you money for it ^^

LaFleurBleue

Ok sure, I’ll let you know when I get there – I might be interested in a trade, as some US teas seem really interesting but the shipping costs from most companies are really prohibitive.

Many, many thanks to gmathis for this tea!!!!

First off, this is a very pretty tea. Lots of blue cornflowers, citrus peel, and other herbaceous beauties! It made me really excited to try it as one of my Earl Grey Alternatives.

It’s really nice once brewed. Citrus-y but there is something else — I thought it was chamomile. I was convinced it was chamomile. I was expecting my head to hit my desk at work at any moment until I read the description and saw that the herb-y flavor was eucalyptus! Phew! I am so relieved as I am one of those people who can talk themselves into falling asleep with chamomile. :) It’s interesting that I taste herb-y but not menthol-y as I would expect with the eucalyptus, though!

This definitely fulfilled my “something different” wish. I don’t think I’d go searching it out (I like herb-y more during the night) but I am happy to have tried it! I may combine my remaining bit with my Earl’s Garden to tone down the herb-y for work drinking.

What a pretty tea! The dark leaf is accented with colorful blue mallow, cornflower and safflower. Pieces of orange rind, yellow-green lemongrass and small shreds of eucalyptus appear throughout. It looks like confetti exploded in the leaf.

This brews up into a vibrant cup of celebration! Aside from the tea itself, lemongrass and orange are the dominating flavors. The eucalyptus and safflower pair to create an herby flavor with a tingly finish. The base is a little brothier than a lot of base for flavored teas, with a little bit of earthyness. It seems to keep the whole cup cohesive, and with so many flavors going on it’s impressive it does the job so well.

As a fun blend with different sights and flavors, this totally lives up to it’s Carnival moniker.

This is one of the prettiest loose black teas I think I’ve ever seen. All the goodies look like confetti. And the scent…mmmmmm!

It steeps into a coppery-colored cup of sweet citrus flavor. Lots and lots of orange; yep, there’s the lemongrass; the eucalyptus in this particular cup is faint, if existent. But I’ll blame that on small-sample ingredient inequity.

Anyway, this is fresh, tasty, citrusy, and a little celebratory, and I’m grateful to Steep City for the taste!

I’ve been drinking this while catching up on housework and binge watching the season of Top Chef that takes place in New Orleans.

It’s kind of appropriate, with all the mad vibrancy and color going throughout. I only regret not having some on Fat Tuesday!

There’s a wonderful herbaceous note running through the cup, which definitely tips this into a more savory tea category. The orange/lemongrass play second fiddle to the more grounded flavors of eucalyptus. The base is solid and non-obstrusive and does a good job of tying all of the strong flavors (that could easily miss the mark) together.
