Beatrix Potter’s talent as an illustrator surfaced shortly after she was born to wealthy parents in 1866. She spent her childhood enjoying long walks in the countryside with her brother where she drew everything she could see. She developed a special affinity for drawing the local animal life, especially rabbits. Her pet rabbit, Benjamin Bouncer, served as the model for many of her early illustrations and would later inspire her most memorable creation. In 1902, her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, was published. It was based on a story she had written and illustrated for the children of a former governess, and it became immediately and immensely popular. The success of Peter Rabbit rocketed her to literary fame and, even today, her books are a mainstay of children’s collections everywhere.
As evidenced by the myriad plants she mentions in her stories, Beatrix Potter was a lover of nature and an avid gardener. In her stories, tea takes the form of healing herbals like the one given to Peter Rabbit: “I am sorry to say that Peter was not very well during the evening. His mother put him to bed, and made some chamomile tea; and she gave a dose of it to Peter!” Our Beatrix Potter blend combines a soothing selection of herbs she mentioned with an organic green rooibos base that is both healthful and delicious for the young and young at heart.

I topped this off as an iced tea for the start of today’s work shift. The strawberry flavoring is adding this artificial and oddly strange aftertaste. I don’t mind if a company adds “natural” or “flavoring” to their blends, but the strawberry is too fake; otherwise, I don’t think the blend would be bad at all.
Finally broke into the literary sampler I purchased last year. Since it was Easter, I started with Beatrix Potter’s blend. I have so many of her books and love Squirrel Nutkin the best.
I got a new tea kettle and I’m still trying to figure out if I like it or not. It was a gift but seems to have too much “fancy” for me. My last kettle was great and might be rescued from the basement. The gifter lives with me, so I think I have to try this out for a little bit longer.
I used about 1.5 tsp of leaf in my infuser and steeped for about 5 minutes. The first thing I notice is the strawberry flavor. It’s definitely a sweet tea and needs no added sweetener. After my experiences with the NSP sampler, I think S&V seem to be pretty darn good at coming up with teas that reflect their names. I’m fairly positive, if I had this one blindly, I would be thinking about gardens. Maybe the next one I’ll pull at random and see.

I have been thinking about buying this as the first tea to try with my twin grandsons, especially since we have a family tradition of reading one Beatrix Potter a night from Dec. ! to Dec. 23. They are already being read a few of the books.

Ohhhh I love that idea. When I had my first baby, my father gifted me the entire collection in one volume. It’s a bit unwieldly. But I still have my books from when I was young. They were gifted to me by our neighbors who were like 2nd grandparents to me.
The scent of this tea is so delicious! The flavor is pretty simple and mild. It’s strawberry with a green rooibos base and a few herbaceous hints in the background. The strawberry might lean a little fake, but it works. It makes a pretty refreshing cold cup of tea. I have Beatrix Potter’s entire collection on my bookshelf, and I have to say this is a well thought out tea – it just feels like the perfect vibe for her books.
I still need to order the literary sampler!

Yeah, I just ordered the full sizes of the two herbal teas from the literary collection and figured I’d try all the caffeinated ones someday!
I have considered buying this one and I really should. We read one Potter book a night from December 1 to December 23, and after Christmas one year read the Fairy Caravan for about a week in the evenings!
That’s so fun! I still remember the funny voices my dad would use when he read these books to me when I was a kid, so it’s always really nostalgic to reread them.

I haven’t written a tasting note for this, though I’ve had it for a while. S&V actually sent me a tin of this one instead of what I ordered… so maybe that’s why it took a while, though I’ve drank it a few times. It’s a sweet blend – the most distinct flavor is the strawberry flavoring. But then there is hints of chamomile and spearmint, all on that rare green rooibos base. I can’t really taste the lemongrass, but I think this blend would be excellent with some lemon verbena. I wouldn’t say using the two teaspoons is too much… it seems like a good amount to use for this one. I like this blend, but with a few tweaks, it could be even more delicious. It’s nice to see the rare green rooibos though.

This is an interesting melange of flavors. There are several prominent notes to this tea. I can taste rooibos, chamomile, and the lemon from the lemongrass. This is pretty good. It’s not too sweet and it’s not bitter. It is one of the hardest to describe teas I have reviewed. Drinking it now because it has no caffeine and I have insomnia.
I brewed this once in a 16oz Teavana Glass Perfect Tea Maker/Gravity Steeper with 3 tsp leaf and boiling water for 5 minutes.
Flavors: Lemongrass, Rooibos
This is one that interested me except for the rooibos.
The rooibos is the base of the tea. Don’t know what it would be like without that.
Though I see now that it is green rooibos, which I somehow missed when looking at their author teas before. Green is okay, it’s the red that always tastes like medicine to me. :)
