White tea Shang sample of the mid afternoon. Yes, I realize I’m drinking a lot of tea today and I have become close friends with the restroom because of it. My first jasmine white tea of Shang. This is a nice soft jasmine taste that isn’t overly perfumey. I’m getting a spearmint-like sensation at the tail end of the sip. The aftertaste has a slight drying effect with a hint of sweet hay note. This isn’t my favorite white jasmine tea, but it’s not bad by any means either, just doesn’t really stand out in my opinion.

Edit:
Just a quick side note that I just realized…this is my 100 tasting note!

I’m right behind you!

LiberTEAS

Congrats on 100 tasting notes. I do really like Shang Tea, they have some of the best white teas I’ve encountered.

SimpliciTEA

So that’s who you got your new package from: Shang Tea. I’m glad you’re enjoying the teas. I vaguely remember reading some good things about them, as a company at least (Although I don’t remember seeing a company review written about them in under the ‘online’ Places).

Sad to hear your husband doesn’t seem to share in your enthusiasm about tea. :(

Congratulations on the 100th tasting note!

Lucy

Congratulations on the 100th tasting note! How exciting =)

Invader Zim

Thank you everyone!

SimpliciTEA, the new package I got today is from Verdant, I got Shang’s tea package yesterday!

The husband doesn’t share tea enthusiasm at all. I have him try some and he’ll just stares at me and shrug his shoulders after swishing it in his mouth.

Bonnie

Happy 100!!!!

Daisy Chubb

Yay happy 100 indeed!

LiberTEAS

@Invader Zim: be glad that he takes a sip at all. My husband rarely even does that. One time, he emphasized his point that HE DOES NOT LIKE TEA by taking a sip and promptly going to the bathroom to vomit.

Ah well, I’m ok with that, because, all this tea in this house… all of it, it’s MINE! He can’t have it. My precious. MINE!

ashmanra

Happy 100, IZ!

SimpliciTEA

Silly men! : }

Bonnie

LIBERTEAS crackin up! Reminds me of the uglies! My ex -husband was so mean that he wouldn’t have ALLOWED me to even HAVE tea in the house girl! If it wasn’t about him …it wasn’t!

Invader Zim

LiberTEAS: your husband seems to take it a little too far, but yes more us! and I love you precious analogy!

SimpliciTEA…you are a man aren’t you?!

Bonnie: I apologize if i offend you, but it sounds like there’s god reason he’s an ex.

SimpliciTEA

Invader Zim You bet I am, and I have no problem with poking fun at my own sex. : )

CHAroma

Hahahahahaa! “close friends with the restroom” LOL!! So funny! Congratulations on your 100th tasting note too! I always enjoy your posts, so keep ’em coming! :)

Invader Zim

Thank you CHAroma, it’s always nice to know that they are being enjoyed!

Tea #21 from HHTTB2

This is a quite dark leaf for a white tea; it’s a gradient of light to dark greens.

The flavor is dominantly jasmine, but it’s not an overpowering perfume, more of a delicate refreshing floral. There’s also a very subtle salty/sweet note. The base is slightly creamy and doesn’t have any dissonant hay or straw notes. A shorter steep definitely helps keep the jasmine under control.

I’m glad I had a chance to try this, as I hadn’t heard of the company previously. The price point is fair and there is a definite resteepability to the leaves. This would be a pretty fair day-to-day jasmine.

I love jasmine tea. Another wonderful sample from Nicole. The jasmine is a bit on the strong side. Next time I make it, I plan to steep for a shorter time and see if that a difference. I don’t feel like I could give it a fair rating right now. I’m going to wait for the next try :)

Nicole

I think Shang Tea suggests 1-2 minutes at 190F. I don’t steep this one for very long, either.

Em

Thanks for the tip! I’ll try that next time.

Shang Tea

Many times in the store we brew this tea for only 45 seconds – 1 minute the first couple of steeps. We do traditionally scent this tea 4-5 times with jasmine flowers, so it can be pretty strong if you let it steep for longer than 2 minutes. Enjoy!

Sipdown, 235. Thanks to Kasumi no Chajin for this tea! I brought this sample home yesterday because I wanted to brew it in a smaller mug than what I had at the office. So I have it now!

I have always wanted to try more of Shang Tea’s teas, because what I have had from them has been great. This has a lovely, soft jasmine scent, but its not as honeysuckle sweet as some jasmines. The flavor is nice and light, without being perfumy to ‘thick’ in the florals. The white tea is nice; it prevents the base from being too vegetal, but it isn’t so hay-ish like some whites. There are a hint of savory buttery notes as well which are quite nice. Overall quite a lovely jasmine that is fairly unique. I could drink it all the time!

I’m trying to be more white-tea-tolerant (one of my tea resolutions). This seems like a good selection – I love jasmine. Added to my shopping list! :)

Kasumi no Chajin

If I was to make a similar tea resolution, it might be to become more black tea-tolerant! I need to order this myself, it re-steeps beautifully!

I wouldn’t really have ordered this as a stand alone thing but it came in my sampler pack of Shang teas.

I love the way the wet leaves smell here when brewed – this is high mountain tea and it smells so fresh, sweet and delicious! I really love the white tea that Shang is using here as their white tea base and I think it makes a huge difference in the flavor of this blend.

This sample is about 3 g and I decided to steep the whole thing using short infusions in the gaiwan with water that’s about 180 F. The jasmine is fairly subtle here, definitely not in your face as TeaEqualsBliss describes below. It is very nectar like and relaxing but jasmine never really sits well in my stomach. If you’re a jasmine lover I’d highly recommend checking this one out. Probably one of the best I’ve had of this type but my personal preference would be the Shang white honeysuckle over this one. Keeping the steeping times shorter is helping to keep the jasmine under control.

Here’s Hoping Traveling Tea Box #8
Wow this one got high ratings. I hate to rain on this parade… But it was wayyyyy too perfumey for me. I love jasmines but this one tasted quite bitter, extremely overwhelmingly floraly and very perfume like! :(

Side note: my tonsillitis is back! It hasn’t even been a whole month yet since my last encounter! This is getting out of hand!

Kaylee

Oh nooooo. Feel better longer soon!

Stephanie

Ugh… tonsilitis. I’ve had issues with mine before. I wish I’d had them removed as a kid! Meh.

Tea #27 from the Here’s Hoping TTB

I wish there had been more of this in the box because I really enjoyed it. Even with a short 1m steep the jasmine flavor was strong, but not overpowering, as jasmine blends can sometimes be. Beyond the jasmine there is a subtle sweetness that I am picking up that really adds to the flavor. It is the sweetness in this tea that makes it stand out a little bit more than other similar blends that I have tried.

Before this TTB I wasn’t familiar with Shang Tea, but I do know that I will be checking them out at some point now that I’ve tried this tea.

I really like the level of jasmine flavor in this tea. It isn’t super strong, but it is there and you don’t have to focus and concentrate to discern the flavor of the flower. It is sweet yet sharp.

The white tea is delicate, and the leaves open to reveal small, tender leaves.

A very beautiful jasmine tea. Shang Tea really impresses me when it comes to jasmine teas.

This is a nice Jasmine right here! Not IN YOUR FACE but enough to say…ahhh…Jasmine! I love the white tea taste with the Jasmine, too! Very nice!
