The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year, a day many cultures around the world marked by feasting, drinking & celebrating. In Western cultures what was left of the Autumn fruit harvest was often dried & preserved for cooking; decorating the home with evergreen warded off evils & also celebrated the hope of coming Spring; beer & wine was fermented so it could be imbibed during the long winter ahead.
