Darjeeling T.G.F.O.P. 2nd flush "Margaret's Hope"

Darjeeling T.G.F.O.P. (Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe) 2nd flush “Margaret’s Hope” is a highly prized tea from the most famous Tea Garden.

The Margaret’s Hope Tea Garden famous for its top quality first, second, autumnal and “in-between” (harvested in April-May) teas. The Garden is situated on the slopes of the Himalayas about a mile above sea level and its unique climate, from cool breezes to intense sun gives the tea leaves their gorgeous flavour and character.

For our shop we decided to choose a second flush Darjeeling which is picked during May and June 2009. This tea has a rounder, fruitier, more mature and less astringent flavour than the first and “in-between” teas. Its rich, full-bodied and exquisite “muscatel” character made this tea famous and desired by tea connoisseurs all around the world. Very attractive tippy, green-brown leaf fives a very clear and bright liquor.

By some tea experts it is classified as an “Afternoon tea” but we found that it is absolutely suitable with a continental-style breakfast, after a meal or during the day and best appreciated without or little milk.

Brewing methods: Brew 1 teaspoon of tea per 1 cup of hot, freshly boiled water of 100C/203F for 2-3 min.

Did you know…..?

The Tea Garden actually was renamed in 1930’s by the owner, Mr Bagdon. His younger daughter, Margaret, visited the Estate and fell in love with its beauty. She thought that one day she can return there again but sadly just after her return trip to England she died. In her memory Mr Bagdon decided to name this Garden “Margaret’s Hope”.
