From New Mexico Tea Company

Made with a little bit of luxury, Obubu’s Genmaicha (玄米茶) or Brown Rice Tea is made with sweet mochi rice (also grown in Wazuka) combined with Yanagi Bancha.

The strong, sweet flavor of the roasted rice fills the air as the tea steeps and mixes with the sweetness and bitterness of the sencha to produce a delicious tea.

YANAGI BANCHA
About a month after harvesting the leaves to make Sencha, a second cropping of the same plants is done in June to produce Yanagi Bancha (やなぎ番茶).

This June cropping is deep to increase volume for the next harvest, as well as to get the slender pieces of twigs (which contain sugars that offset the bitterness of the more mature leaves).
