From New Mexico Tea Company

The blend has as its base a Sencha style green tea manufactured in Hunan Province in South Eastern China. Sencha green teas typically have dark green, needle shaped leaves and produce a pale green to yellow, very bright, smooth cup with a sweetish, honey like finish. The natural sweetness of this green tea makes it perfectly suited for blending with our dried Papaya pieces and natural passion fruit flavorings.

I needed a bright, happy tea after dealing with stupid med insurance junk that I’m still confused about and this does the trick. A wonderful flavored green tea that tastes tropical and makes me smile.

I saw Mike Moore’s “Sicko” last night. Hard to understand the way the US medical system works (or doesn’t), I guess we have it lucky here in Aus.
But I feel your pain. I shall have a cup of green myself as a mark of tea drinker’s solidarity!

jennlea

And I will join you with another cup! One can never have too much tea.

Robert Godden

Great idea – I’ve now had two.
How brilliant that we can have a virtual tea party across the globe!

TeaCast

Ahhh that’d be great :D

jennlea

Tea friends and tea parties are the best even if they are virtual!

I hate insurance as much as I love tea- that shows you how much I loath it lol. Medicaid just changed it so instead of getting a new chair every 5 yrs, I can only get one when repairs (which I have to pay outta pocket for now) total the value of a new chair. And that only counts on chairs they’ve paid for… and I don’t use the last chair they paid for cuz it’s way too big- Dept. of Voc. Rehab bought this chair, but they won’t pay for repairs.

Robert Godden

Look, given how bad the whole medical insurance thing is there, I’ll clear out a room and yiou can all move here, There’s plenty of Tea !

jennlea

Uggh! I just don’t understand insurances companies. Here is part of my story: I have been taking medication everyday for a very long time (almost 10 years). It is the only thing that prevents me from having debilitating migraines. Insurance for some unknown reason decided to stop covering the generic but will cover and pay for me to have the brand name, minus my co-pay of course. So now it will cost me and them more money…I don’t get it. Previous insurance canceled my policy because of my migraines and I had trouble with the one before that. Crazy huh?

Cofftea

Jennlea… I feel your pain. I’ve been on a medication for as long as I can remember. A few yrs ago they stopped covering the brand name and gave me the generic. No big deal. But then a year ago they stopped covering that, and nothing they do cover works nearly as well.

jennlea

@Robert- Tempting, lol!

Cofftea

VERY tempting. Will you pay for my airfare? lol

Robert Godden

I’ve been a massive migraine sufferer all my life. The problem here is that the medication I take comes in packets of two, so by the time I’ve developed a migraine and realised I’m out of the medication, it’s too late. But when I’ve been hospitalised with migraines, all they do is rehydrate with a drip!
So I worked this out -

My solution these days is to take an imperial pint glass of water, dissolve two aspirin+codeine in it, get some salty food like plain corn chips and make a pot of green tea. Sip and crunch them all over the course of about 15 minutes. Then pour another glass or water and take a nap.
Repeat the tea and water hourly until you feel better.
Let’s see your insurance company interfere with that!

Cofftea

Interesting remedy! 6mg of melationin and any hot tea work for me. Just don’t swallow the melatonin w/ hot tea lol.

“Crime of Passion” reminds me of Seinfeld when Uncle Leo got caught stealing books hahaha

Just loved the name on this tea so had to buy some.
Smells very fruity, it’s the dominant smell by far

Taste is something of a let down. I steeped for a minute and 15sec and the color is very pale. The taste is faint and washed out. I’m disappointed because I’m a big fan of everything that’s in this tea, but it’s just not doing it for me. :(

I’ll try some different tricks in the future to try and get some flavor out of this but for now my rating isn’t going to be the best on this. Such a letdown after trying the Ontario Icewine from the same company yesterday!

Maybe it needs a longer steep?

T.C.

I’m going to try that next time. I’m so used to greens not needing more then a minute….thought I was pushing it going to 1:15. Time will tell(pun intended)

New Mexico Tea Company

I would definitely recommend steeping it for longer. Our recommended time is 2 min. But you are right, you dont want to over-do it, or it will become bitter. Also make sure the water temperature is correct for a longer steep. (170 degrees)

Thanks for the comment.
I bought a Bonavita Variable Temperature Electric I use for all my teas that is accurate within 1% of temperature. I have 5 presets I use for different kinds of teas so I know I’m pegging 175 when I pour.

I’ll certainly give it 2 minutes next time I taste it to see how it reacts.

This tea is very nice! This is another one I was very unsure of based on the smell of the dry leaves. Light buttery green tea base with a nice mild tropical flavor. I am enjoying it hot but I bet this one would also be very good iced.
