This is the iced tea I’ve had in my water bottle recently. I had a Blueberry Green tea from English Tea Store in the past and was not a fan of it, because the base was gunpowder green, and the smoky notes of the base just did not mesh at all with what was otherwise a pretty nice blueberry flavor. All I could think was who made that blending choice, because a sencha just seemed obvious in my mind. Well, then I saw that Murchie’s actually had a Blueberry Green tea with a sencha base, so I had to try it. At the time I made my order they were sold out, so I had to get a box of the teabags, because I really wanted a chance to sample it. I ended up putting three bags into a quart of water in a mason jar and let it cold steep overnight.
The flavor is very nice; the blueberry is sweet with a subtle fruity tanginess toward the close of the sip and in the aftertaste, and the base tea is very smooth with a gentle grassiness that is very naturally sweet from the fruity blueberry note. I’m actually impressed that this is a fruity flavored green tea that has a nice fruit flavor but isn’t so overwhelming there are still notes of the base sencha as well; it seems to have struck a nice balance with the sweet fruitiness and subtle grassiness, which is quite refreshing right at the end of the sip. It makes a wonderful iced tea! This is the Blueberry Green I’d been wanting and failed to get before with that nasty gunpowder green version (blech). So happy to have found this one!
