The ultimate in extravagant sipping. Engineered for pure, smooth enjoyment, Mercedes Apple Spice delivers all the character and flavor you’d expect from a luxury herb and fruit tea. That said, when you hear the name Mercedes, what comes to mind? You’re forgiven if your answer involved cars. The Mercedes nameplate has graced the front of luxury automobiles in one form or another since 1900. But did the name start with, and is our herb and fruit tea named after a car? Let’s delve further. The name Mercedes actually began as a Spanish girl’s name. In fact, in 1878 the Spanish Queen Consort, wife of King Alfonso XII was a Mercedes, María de las Mercedes d’Orléans y Borbón, a.k.a Mercédés/ Marie des Graces d’Orleans-Montpensier, to be exact. (Not sure that name would fit on our tea label.) Then there was Doña María de las Mercedes de Borbón y Habsburgo-Lorena of Spain, a princess and former Heiress Presumptive of the Spanish royal crown from 1885-1886. (Also a little long for a tea label.)
More recently there is Mercedes Agnes Carlotta McCambridge, the 1949 Academy award winning actress, Mercedes Sosa, the famed Argentinean folk singer and Mercédesz Stieber the famous Hungarian water polo player. Reading through the list it’s clear that in addition to the luxury car brand, the name Mercedes has over the years, graced an eclectic mix of interesting and notable female characters. So is our tea named after one of these? Hmm, we still haven’t taken into account all of the towns and cities that carry the name. There’s Mercedes, Argentina, Mercedes, Philippines, Mercedes, Uruguay and Mercedes Texas, not to mention two Colleges carrying the name in Australia. Clearly, the name is everywhere. So, who or what is our tea named in honor of? Well, we’re going to have to go with…all of them, you know, to reflect the rich tapestry of life in the grand sense of the term.
To further reflect that rich tapestry, we’ve woven together some of the richest, spiciest and most flavorful ingredients we could find. The cup opens with the crisp character of autumn apple delicately layered with exotic cardamom, cloves and pepper leading to a light lingering cinnamon finish. A fabulous tea befitting the famous name – long live Mercedes!
