This is by far my favorite of the Héritage Gourmand samples I received from CharlotteZero (and second only to my beloved Macaron in the HG lineup). It does remind me quite a bit of Macaron, with that delightful aftertaste I can really only describe as clear gummy bear. The bergamot’s not very strong, the base comes through nicely, and the overall effect is very smooth, very comforting. I think I am picking up on the berry note others have mentioned, as well. I don’t see how this tea is meant to resemble a crêpe, but that’s okay when it’s this good. I would for sure pick up some more of this if it were possible to buy it without the very expensive tin. As it is, I might still consider doing so at some point, when my stash is under control. After all, when I move to London next year Mariage Frères will practically be on my doorstep…

I agree with CharlotteZero that this tea is very interesting, thanks for sharing it with me!

I had enough of this tea for about 1.5 cups so I just brewed the whole sample in my steeper. As I brought the first cup to my face, I got a strong smell of blueberry! I got some in the taste as well, but quite faintly. It also had a very mellow cakey taste. I didn’t get any bergamot though, but thought that might have been because I added cream and I have found that cream kills bergamot! It was a tasty cup though.

Second cup – steeped for about 45 mins while I drank the first cup. I immediately added some extra water before even tasting it because I thought it would be too strong. Added milk instead of cream. Now there’s the bergamot! I am not getting the berry or crepe flavours though. I bet I could get all the flavours in one cup with the right brewing time and with no cream. Though I am not sure I would be willing to spend the type of money that this tea costs just to try. I would purchase this for sure if It was more affordable, because it is good, but not mind blowing.

Ah. This tea. I’m not sure yet if I really like it or if I love it. I haven’t had a crêpe in years, but this does have a crêpe or cake-like smell. This is like an earl grey creme where the bergamot and the especially the vanilla are pretty mellow. I think there may be a touch of berry flavor in this as well. This is a pretty interesting tea.

Any florals ? is it strong flavored ? I don’t like how Fauchon so floral

CharlotteZero 11 years ago

Eh…I don’t think the florals are very strong, but my palate isn’t very sensitive to florals. I think the bergamot would overwhelm the florals to me. I’d be happy to send you a sample if you’d like to try it.
