Since its inception in the early 1980’s, this variety of Taiwanese oolong, also known as “Golden Daylily”, has captivated tea drinkers around the world. This strain and its subsequent additive-free processing makes for a delightfully aromatic and creamy cup (hence the moniker “milk”). This is an unscented/unflavored tea. Pure growing area, pure leaf and expert processing all come together to make for a rich tea experience.
The dry leaf smells sweet and fruity. The hot rinse really opens up the aromatics of the hand-crafted leaf, bringing out more of the fruitiness, more of the sweetness and the buttery, creamy scent. Once brewed, we get a tea liquor that is so soft, so smooth and creamy with a delicate, floral aroma. Rich in complexity and an aftertaste that lingers and dances about on the palate.

Coconut milk is the tasting note that jumps out the most, alongside hand churned butter, fresh cream, and a hint of floral hyacinth.

(I think this is the Golden Daylily although my sample was only marked as “Jin Xuan”, so apologies if it’s another variant).
I was baad about mindfully drinking this sample; I meant to savour and make note of it properly but it turns out this Jin Xuan is an easy drinker (aka- totally chugged it. Sorry).
I do recall that it was juicy, silky and somewhat buttery, although not to the extent of the scented Milk Oolong, which knows no equals in its richness and creaminess. There was one particularly noteworthy cup where this Jin Xuan transformed into an extremely happy mango pudding; that was one fine cup.

I’ve encountered the mango note in Jin Xuan before (What-Cha’s China Fujian Anxi Jin Xuan had it), but this one outlier cup here was tastier. I would now like to see a mango flavoured milk oolong. XD
