This young tea hits a sweet spot for us. It’s got enough assertive potency to be excellent for aging while still being very graceful and enjoyable to drink now. I am not yet at the level of these esteemed sommaliers of Chinese tea, however, as I do not believe I have the capacity to enjoy this tea every day, as they have reported doing. It is a remarkably smooth drinker, yet with enough punchiness to retain interest, it’s true. But their refined palates must be grasping nuances beyond the ken of a beginner such as myself, to lead them to imbibe this on the daily. I do not think it could hold my interest at that frequency, though the fault is surely mine.
Yes, I will just come out and admit it. At best, I’d be shufflin’ monthly.
From the first moment I cracked the bag, I knew I was going to like this tea. It smells sweet, floral and fruity. Tasting the first steep I got just a hint of cloves and lemon, with a buttery slightly sweet finish! The second and third steepings have more fresh, green flavors but retain their buttery goodness. There is a clean tannic finish that comes out especially in the second steeping.
