From Liquid Proust Teas

6/7/2015 : This tea was not up to par and therefore a batch will not be made.

Unsure why this blend happened because I am not a fan of black tea…however, this blend did happen so the goal is that I am able to blend a decent type of tea I don’t even enjoy.
Keemun, oolong, dried blackberry, marigold, and sage.
“When he talked, there was a sort of mushy sound to his pronunciation that was charming because one sensed that it betrayed not so much an impediment in his speech as a quality of his soul, a sort of vestige of early childhood innocence that he had never lost. Each consonant he could not pronounce appeared to be another instance of a hardness of which he was incapable.” Swann’s Way

Wow, it has been forever since I had either a blackberry tea or a Keemun, sad, Keemun used to be one of my favorite black teas before being ousted by the fuzzy golden Yunnans, I kinda miss it. Oh man, the aroma of this one is intensely blackberry, very sweet and creamy with a bit of a crust aroma, like a blackberry cobbler. There is also a gentle hint of sage at the very end, which is kinda fun, it tickles the nose a bit.

This one was so tasty! Boo that it isn’t in the store! The Keemun is mellow and sweet, adding an underlying chocolate and slight floral edge to the intense blackberry notes. It tastes like cobbler and this makes me immensely happy. The sage is pretty mellow, just sneaking in at the finish to add a bit of an herbal depth to the tea.

Everyone seems to have liked this one quite a bit… maybe I will create some more of it. I thought it was a bit dry myself.

OMGsrsly

This sounds so cool. I have a blackberry sage vanilla tea that just doesn’t have much blackberry OR sage.

Sounds very intriguing…I would love to see this on Etsy!

I just wanted to add my voice to the choir of praise for this lovely. I really enjoyed this one too and was hoping to purchase it from his Etsy.

So… I just found a stash of my old batch I forgot about because it was put aside for a TTB in which I have yet to see, who would like to take some of this? (free of course!)

This is delicious. I absolutely adore blackberry, it is my favorite fruit next to raspberry. And with a drop of honey to help out the sweetness of the berry flavor, this is juicy and good. I can taste the sage but it is mellow, which I kind of like. When the herb flavor overwhelms the fruit flavor it is paired with, I usually end up feeling like I am drinking soup and reassign that tea to my “teas to cook with” section of the collection. Not a bad thing…but I like my tea to be more tea than herbs.

No rating as it is not the final incarnation of this blend. I would rate it a 90 for me personally, for anyone that might care about that sort of thing.

Being in search of a good blackberry tea I decided that maybe I can give it a go at created my own. The first trial run made me realize how bitter and bold a keemun and sage blend is on its own. With that discovery I added some oolong and marigold to the mixture to keep the integrity of the keemun and blackberry sage taste while lowering some of the bitterness. Still not a fan of black teas so it is hard for me to blend them. Really hoping that someone who drinks black teas will enjoy this one.

Sil

interesting that you added oolong to lower the bitterness.

Liquid Proust

Oolong has less than a black, but I didn’t want to steel the keemun taste. I am going to rely on others on how it works as they taste it.
