From Lazy Cat Tea

This Rou Gui comes from the Zhengyan protected area of Wuyishan. Due to the impervious nature and small size of this area, the tea produced here is not a large amount. Zhengyan tea is considered exceptional because the unique terroir can enrich tea with a strong “Yan Yun” flavor: a hard to describe uniue flavor literally translated as “melody of the cliffs”. Rougui is considered the best cultivar to express the yun flavor.

Late afternoon session from earlier in the week! I still can’t get over how intense and amazing the dry leaf of the Rougui smelled; it was syrupy saturated plums, balsamic reduction, red wine, cinnamon, and lilac notes at their finest. Seriously, though – that rich balsamic aroma was so crystal clear and drool worthy!! It’s delicious steeped too; quite fruity leaning with lots of brandied plum & stewed stonefruit notes alongside elements of leather, cinnamon, nutmeg, lilac, orchids, dark roasted grains, clove, and damp potting soil. The finish is particularly sweet and fruity, hardening back to that winey balsamic aroma but less acidic and vinegar leaning. It’s unique and familiar, all at once – basically, I am in love.
