From Kuura

It’s been a long day, siphoning secret data from a Megacorp, followed by a run-in with a street gang. Chopping heads, avoiding the pigs; and you got android blood on your new jacket. Damn.

What you need, is to unwind. Relax.

Take a sip of this high-end blend of ripe puer, made from small, private batch productions. This tea represents the best ripe material we’ve hoarded slowly over the past couple of years, meticulously combined to make something greater than the sum of its parts.

This tea has an uncommonly strong and sweet fragrance, with a heavy, luxurious body and distinct warming sweetness.

Kick off your boots, rest those tired eyes, and slip into this silky, smooth, shu puer.

The artwork is a special commission from artist Max Prentis.

Each cake is 200g, with 5 cakes per tong. Pressed December 2018 using various material piled in 2016 and 2017.

Gongfu!

I feel like there’s a lot of duality happening with this pu’erh. The aroma that immediately comes off the leaf once the water hits it heavy with sweet, brown and carmelized notes, like the smell of brown sugar simmering in a pot to make caranel. Initially, the top notes leading into the body of the suo mirrors this. Especially in the first couple of infusions. Very rich, dense, and drenched in notes of molasses. It reminds me a lot of a polarizing Halloween candy that I love; I believe they’re actually called “Halloween Kisses” but, growing up, we always referred to them as “Tar Candies” because of how thick, chewy and molasses-y they were. So nostalgic!

Somewhere in the middle, though, the flavour pivots. It gets very, very saline and savory in a way that makes me think of chicken stock or bullion cubes. Just unctuous, brothy, and so umami forward. At times I did find the saltiness a little much, but there’s still something very dynamic about having such a contrast of flavours within eash slurp. I’ve probably only got another tea sessions worth of leaf left now, so I really made this one count!!

Well, this is one heck of a puerh.
Strong.
Thick.
Smooth.
Sweet.
Creamy.

This is probably the BEST ripe puerh I’ve had in a while. I’ve been mostly drinking semi aged raw/very young raw puerh lately. However, this is quite the treat…Nice longevity, too. Making my way through the 9th steep, and there’s plenty to go. I will probably ride this session until the end, even if it means allowing it to dry over night, and continue it tomorrow.

I must admit that everything that I’ve tried from Kuura has been a hit. Unfortunately, the shipping oftentimes stopped me from getting anything (samples, mostly). I took advantage of one free shipping sale, in 2018, but that was it….Anyway, I’m glad that I got a sample of this, but, since I remember it being enjoyable, it took me months to get the courage to drink the rest.

C’est la vie.

PS. I noted at the 13th steep that I was ‘getting the qi pretty hard.’ I’ve yet to have a ripe puerh have that effect on me, ever.

I’ll need to check the company out…first I’ve heard of it but admittedly I ha ent been searching out new tea companies much this year because of the new baby and house lol

They’re pretty cool, but their shipping is expensive. They do have free shipping sales, but alas, worth the try when those happen.

Congratulations on the baby and new house!
