Pu-erh is known for its earthly aroma and taste. It is a very popular drink in China due to the claim that it has slimming properties.
According to legend, the production process of Pu-erh tea originated in the tropical rainforests around the town of Pu-erh, through which merchants needed to transport their tea and due to searching easier ways of transporting the tea they came up with the cake shapes. These were easier to stack and could easily be collected it the tea would fall during the transportation. Due to the humid climate the underwent secondary oxidation which they realised enriched the flavor. Similar to wine, Pu-erh tea becomes more and more delicious with age given that it is stored under the right conditions.
