The combination of Hojicha and toast is just savory!! to me, the flavor profile has become increasingly clear…definitely a light, slightly burnt popcorn note (not burnt perhaps, but maybe roasted.. can u roast popcorn??)
this tea is truly delicious.
truth be told, i was so hungry (and excited about the resultant flavor combination), i scarfed down the toast before the tea was ready & thus, defeated the purpose of this pairing. i think i managed to get 1 or 2 bites of toast in along with the tea (tho it was too hot..) next time i’ll simply have to exercise restraint, and resist the urge to put the toaster on before the kettle.

It’s definitely green, I realize. But roasty, so that there’s a good vegetal taste under a barley and/or cooked rice sort of note. I like it.

Lingers? Yes, notes blend slightly, but all linger with character.
Just trying this for the first time – this is my first hojicha too. I’m on the fence. In a way, it just tastes like plain green tea, but it is smoother which I really like. I thought it might taste roasted, but it doesn’t at all. I just read that hojicha has reduced caffeine..maybe not the best choice for first thing in the morning! :)
