From Drink T

Chai simply means “tea” in many parts of the world. However, for others it means tea with Indian spices, enjoyed with milk and honey. Our California Chai goes its own way, using aromatic black tea, flavored with eastern spices plus a touch of citrus and vanilla. It’s a most relaxing and satisfying beverage.

This is REALLY Good!

I like Chai but don’t usually LOVE Chai! Mostly because of the spice over powering the black tea taste…and it being about the spice and only about the spice! BUT…this is really good. I’m THINKING I can say I LOVE THIS CHAI!

The aroma is marvelous! Chai, Creamy, Citrus!
The Black Tea is true and bold. When HOT there is a nice amount of spice but I am REALLY excited about the Vanilla and Citrus pops in this blend! They are awesome!

As it cools or even if done ICED I find the spice tastes rapidly increase and are much more extreme but the vanilla smooths it and the citrus gives it that extra something.

I really like the idea of this one! It’s nicely done! It does seem versatile too! Nom. Nom.

Apparently I’m in a chai mood. Since most of the ones I’ve tried today have been great, I’m going to keep trying them (and I have quite a few tucked into my box o’ samples). This is another one from LiberTEAS. If I didn’t know better, I’d say she was trying to convert me into a chai fanatic!

This one is very mild on the spices. They’re still there and are in the fore of the flavors, but are not overpowering or intimidating at all. The vanilla and the citrus are great, making it a smooth cuppa. I really like the thought of having vanilla in chai…makes me want to experiment with making my own!

If someone had a fear of chais (like I do? used to?), this would be a perfect gateway chai to introduce to them. I’d highly recommend this one to any tea drinker, and even a few non-tea drinkers.

Have you tried 52teas’ Mayan Chocolate Chai?

Jaime

Yes, Meghann sent me a sample. It’s delicious, but a bit too hot for me.

amandajo

lol, “gateway chai” Love it!

Cofftea

Sad. Did you try it w/ milk or creamer? I always bump up the steeping time by a min when adding dairy, but you could just leave it as is.

Jaime

No, I didn’t try it with milk or creamer, but that would probably help it. My sample is gone now, or else I’d try that next.

teabird

I love vanilla in my chais! When I make my own (I bought a separate spice-only blend once) I use a homemade Vanilla Assam as the base.

Meghann M

teabird-I like the idea of adding vanilla assam. I need to remember to add a base black tea to the chai spices in my chais, or just more base tea, as they seem weak in the caffeine dept. Vanilla assam sounds like a great base!

Jaime-seeing another positive review of this tea makes me want some. Too bad I bought about 20 different teas at Adagio today. Mostly samples and 3 large bags of tea! I need to start consuming more tea…

Jaime

Meghann, I can send a few cups’ worth your way if you like! I’m so jealous that you got to go to Adagio…and I can honestly say that I probably would have come out of there with more teas than that!! Is the new store everything I want it to be?

Meghann M

I’m so happy I live so close to this shop…and by close I mean 1 1/2 hours away, but still close to other things I go to. It was more than I thought it would be. I think they will help change the way tea is seen. The way the store is set up is great. There are grab and go items, samples, teabags, loose tea, lots of teaware, it’s just fun. I had to stop at 8 samples and 3 large pouches of tea or I would be broke, moving on 2 shelves of tea and have a very mad hubby! (especially since I placed an order online last week to get the mate samples free)

Jaime

It sounds so, so wonderful. I want to go so bad.

I just expanded to two shelves as well…a friend was over tonight (she enjoys tea, I sent her home with some), and she told me I needed an intervention.

A quick glance at my tasting notes from today, and you might think I’m on bit of a chai kick – first the Alberta Street Chai, then the Carnival (which has some spice to it but isn’t “called” a chai, although I think of it as such), and now this. I didn’t really plan it that way, it just happened that when I opened my cabinet looking for a black tea, this is the first one I happened across… and so I decided to try it.

I am glad that I have enough of this to try again, because I think that next time I am going to try it without the latte. Not that it’s bad with the frothed milk (it’s quite yummy!) but with the citrusy tones, I think I want to experience without it. ha! Even the description from Drink T says don’t add cream. I like it with though…

This is a very good chai. The citrus and vanilla notes give it a really interesting flavor. The spices are very nicely done here – a little peppery, a little zingy, a little zippy… but not TOO much. It’s like a little bit of a lot of spice, if you know what I mean.

I love good chai teas and this is no exceptions. It starts with a good quality black tea balanced with eastern spices, vanilla and hints of citrus. Its important that you can taste the base tea and the spices work with, but not overpower, the tea.

tea-sipper

I’m still enjoying some older DrinkT teas… I wish I could still buy some of them!
