Lavender Buttercream

It’s too sweet for me. I find that when DAVIDs uses stevia, they are usually unnecessarily heavy-handed with it.
I rather like the lavender and buttercream flavour. If they would have just stopped there, I think I would have preferred it but the stevia just takes it too over-the-top and I’m not loving the fruity notes either (apple, pineapple.)
Not bad but not destined to be a favourite.

I have really enjoyed this tea. The dry leaf has a lovely sweet, lavender-forward aroma which carries over to the steeped cup. The flavor does make me think of a lavender frosting… it is very sweet with a vanilla cream undertone, and the lavender is lovely, strong enough to be a pervasive flavor but not so strong that the tea gets floral-bitter. My only complaint is that the apple comes off a bit strongly fruity, which does break the buttercream illusion a bit. The tea is also very sweet, so it has taken me a while to sip down my package, since it very much became a “mood” drink.

I’ve been mainly drinking this hot and plain, but decided to use up the last of the leaf in a frothy vanilla almond milk latte, which is very indulgent. The added creaminess of the milk and vanilla really pushes the sweetness, without drowning out the lavender which is by far my favorite part (I’m a big lavender fan).

Sipdown and it meets ashmanra’s sipdown challenge as a tea I won’t repurchase. Despite the intriguing name, I never ordered this one because it has stevia in it and I am not a big stevia fan. But I picked up a sampler a while ago that included this and it did grow on me despite the stevia. The buttercream flavor is very specific, not just generically creamy but more like buttercream frosting. The lavender is lightly floral. The combo is both dessert-y and soothing. Because of the stevia, it’s not one that I would reach for regularly and therefore am not inclined to go out of my way to purchase, but I wouldn’t avoid it in a sampler either!

I knew I wasn’t going to like this tea when I smelled it. It smells a little like vomit. I’m so confused because the name makes it sounds like it should be amazing. It’s not though. If I squint really hard I can kinda taste the lavender, but then again not sure if I am or it’s just in my mind. It smells sweet…it just doesn’t taste good. It has an artificial taste to it that reminds me of some teas I had back in the day from Teavana.

Strange VariaTEA TTB: Tea 5

I feel like this was hyped for a while either here or on Instagram, but I wouldn’t buy a lavender tea since me and lavender aren’t huge friends. However, when I saw this in the box, I did try it…and didn’t really like it. It wasn’t even the lavender. I think the package in the box may be a bit on the older side and is showing it’s age. It got the weird rooibos flavour that happens when it’s passed it’s prime. That plus an overly note made for a not great cuppa.

I’m excited to have this out of my cupboard. I loved the idea of a creamy lavender frosting tea for the evening, but I never really warmed up to it. It still has that weird stevia taste. I wonder if the pineapple was candied with stevia. I also wish there was a little more going on with the buttercream part. It is creamy-ish, but it’s almost like they were relying on the pineapple to carry that forward. The sip is sweet and slightly tart and the finish is all lavender and a little creaminess that changes to a sour flavor which eventually fades away and then I’m left with just the lavender. Glad it’s gone.

This is the first bag of Davids Tea that I opened, smelled and felt nauseated by. It smells chemically and is overwhelming. When I brewed the tea it smelled a lot better but unfortunately that chemical smell could be tasted a bit when drinking it. I regret buying this.

A nice, sweet dessert tea to enjoy when I’m in the right mood. It’s not the prettiest tea, because I could gradually see something floating to the top as my tea cooled, but at least the flavour lives up to the name. I seemed to receive a tin with lots of candied pineapple, so occasionally the taste of pineapple overpowered that of the lavender, but not always. I might add some milk in the future for even more creaminess, but no extra sugar is required with this tea.

Lavender Buttercream was an impulse purchase for me, after absolutely falling in love with the Lavender Swirl blend from David’sTEA. The Lavender Swirl became my absolute favorite in a couple of days after receiving my order and I was afraid I would use it up too quickly. Having been told this was a similar tasting tea, I purchased 2 oz from Amazon to hopefully have another similar tea to enjoy.

Its only been a couple of days since I drank this but my memories of it are not very clear, aside from a distinct DISLIKE. I did not get lavender notes or vanilla from the dry blend, but I wondered if it was simply being overwhelmed by the rooibos base. I went with a teaspoon and a half, and hoped for the best.

While this is a sweet tea, I did not taste lavender, vanilla, frosting, or anything of the sort in the finished cup. It tasted overwhelmingly of the pineapple in the blend, and not in a good way. It was extremely artificial, and reminded me of the pineapple chunks in sweet and sour chicken from a Chinese restaurant. Add in an oily mouthfeel and I was turned off completely.

Dumped the cup and haven’t touched it since. Yuck.

I enjoyed the sample I tried of this a few years ago, so I bought this tin on sale recently. It tastes very similar to Old Barrel’s lavender creme brulee, which I recently finished and miss greatly. It’s not quite as good as that, but it hits the same notes. I get a lot of creaminess, a nice strong lavender note, and a pleasant rooibos. I think it’s best at room temperature with milk. The resteep is strong and tasty. I think this one lives up to its name.
