Cold Brew Sipdown (1286)!
This sipdown was a long time coming, but I’ve finally finished off my tin of this tea! I’ve sort of flip flopped over the years on whether I like this blend or not, and I think ultimately my decision is that it’s good, but could be better executed. There’s just a lot of flavours going on in this tea and I think that results in a cup that sometimes tastes busy or “muddy”.
Today I’m getting a lot of tropical, sweet banana mixed with a “baked coconut”/toasty coconut and strong cinnamon flavour – so less “tiki” than it’s been historically and more of a flambeed banana/baked cinnamon banana vibe? It’s not too bad at all, and since on IG we’re currently having a conversation about Banana Houjicha powder these toastier banana notes are actually satisfying my craving/desire to just go and buy that matcha right now… so I’m actually grateful for these flavours, in this moment, from keeping me from breaking my self imposed “no buy”.
However, in a grander scale I’m mostly just wanting a “do over” for this concept. Either something that’s more properly like a banana tiki drink or something that leans more into the caramelized sugar and warming spice flavours of a baked/brulee-d banana. Both of those sound excellent!
This is the right moment to sip this tea down though – DT just released another tea with coffee leaf, which was IMO the coolest part of this tea in the first place, and any longer and the coconut definitely would have gotten weird…
Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
