J is for… Jasmine Peony!
Yay, a straight tea (in my estimation, anyhow)! One that, once I found it, was really appealing today for whatever reason. And it satisfied – a nice, light jasmine infusion with some pleasant hay-y notes. I believe I like Verdant’s jasmine white better (was it jasmine silver needle?) but that could have been because of the base. However, this was pretty good.

Dry leaf: wiry and long, ranging from cream to dark green in colour. Scent is very floral, a heady jasmine.
Wet leaf: large light green leaves and a fair bit of stem, but the stem has opened up nicely.
Serious jasmine scent. Glorious.
Liquor: pale, pale gold. Scent is creamy jasmine with just a hint of something sharper, something else floral. Beautiful delicate whit tea mouthfeel and genuine-tasting jasmine versus perfumed-soap jasmine.
I adore jasmine teas. I’ve not had one for ages. I generally prefer white tea to green, so this one’s a real treat.
No soapiness or bitterness so far in the taste; there might be if I’d steeped it much longer.

I got about 15g of this one to try since it’s kinda expensive, and I am finally getting around to trying it, haha. It smells so good, a very strong jasmine and floral scent. At first I thought this would be a green tea, but nope- it’s white! It also tastes nice! Definitely jasmine, and a floral tone. This is really nice with a bit of sugar. I like this.

I love jasmine, rose, and floral teas in general. The first time that I smelled this, I knew that it was going to be amazing, because it made me think of the Valentine’s bouquet that I got last month, full of fragrant blooms, and made me instantly happy. I own a lot of jasmine teas and this one definitely has the strongest fragrance by far. It smells so very good. Sweet, honeyed, heady jasmine and a juicy, rose-like scent as well. Mmm.
And that’s exactly how it tastes – rich, beautiful jasmine and juicy, tart roses with that vanilla-honey sweetness that blooms often develop. I love it. It tastes romantic and beautiful and so strong.
I’m going to be purchasing a big tin of this, and fear that it might have just overthrown all of the other jasmine teas in my cupboard…
Sampled this in-store today and found that I liked it so much that I might find a way to justify a wee purchase. Jasmine fresh and light. Perfect for this spring light and optimism.

@Evol – There shouldn’t be any tax on tea – regardless of whether you’re buying from DT or other companies. Sometimes you can get taxed on it when it comes in fancy ass tins/samplers/kits, but really that’s a tax on the container and not the tea itself. Just straight up tea (speaking specifically about DT, for example, the silver bags of tea or tins of tea) has no tax as it’s an ‘unprepared food/good’. That’s where the tax on samplers and stuff comes in – technically at that point it’s no longer ‘unprepared’.

A long, long time ago DT used to carry a Jasmine Silver Needle tea. It was fairly good.
This is definitely really similar to that one, though not all bud for the tea leaf. I think if you liked that one way back in the day then this is something that would definitely make a really natural replacement. Or even really if you like jasmine teas in general.
This one is supposed to be separated from our other jasmine teas just by the intensity of the jasmine notes/scent in the blend – I agree, it’s very strong and very fresh/natural. I felt like someone had shoved a bouquet up my nose when I first got to smell the dry leaf, though in a good way. That carried over in the taste; just rich, full bodied fresh heady jasmine notes. Only weird thing for me was that it had a distinct nuttiness to the undertones that was surprising for me; like a jasmine and almond note combo. Or even marzipan-like? I still don’t know where that came from, but it had me scratching my head.
I liked it a lot, though!

Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
Is this similar in intensity to the jasmine dragon pearl one they have (or at least used to have, idk anymore).
I’d want to do a side by side to really be sure, but just going by memory I think this is stronger. Also, we DO still have the Dragon Pearls, but not for much longer – they were recently retired.
I wish they would email us before the retired any teas. I want to know before they stop shipping it to stores.
They used to, back when they still did the monthly newsletter (so like, 2015ish…) – don’t know why they stopped the practice. The ones that have most recently been retired are English Breakfast, Dragon Pearls, and Lime Gelato. Stores aren’t receiving any more Lime Gelato – and likely wont get more Dragon Pearls either. However, we’re still going to be receiving English Breakfast for a while and both Dragon Pearls and English Breakfast should be available online for much longer than in stores.
