From DAVIDsTEA

Did someone say watermelon with chili seasoning? Enter Watermelon Heat. Taste the flavours of Mexico with this cool yet mellow blend of fresh watermelon and feel-good moringa. To give it a little extra oomph, we added a gentle touch of chili heat that slowly builds as you sip away. Think of it as a refreshing cocktail of mouth-watering fruit with a chili salt rim. Perfect for those hot summer days!

What makes it great:
Light spice on a fruit base, what’s not to love?

Inspired by Tajin seasoning, commonly used in Mexico to seasoned fruits and veggies, like mango and pineapple.

You’ll notice the touch of chili heat is gentle and slowly builds over the course of a cup.

How it tastes:
Fresh watermelon and moringa with a slow-building touch of chili heat.

Melon (Melon, sucrose, citric acid), Lemongrass, Beetroot, Rosehip, Moringa, Nettle leaf, Watermelon flavouring, Fennel, Chili, Salt.

I totally get the Mexican candy vibe this is going for. In some sips, I taste a really nice combo of slightly sour candylike watermelon plus that kick of heat. I just wish there could be a smaller amount of beet in there because often it overpowers the other flavors. Definite points for creativity on this one.

Iced Tea!

This new online exclusive blend launched last week, on Cinco de Mayo! This was one of my favourite blends to develop from this year’s new summer teas; getting the balance of fresh, juicy watermelon and slow building heat just right was about as tricky as it was fun – so, like, very! The inspiration was a mix of spicy margaritas with a chili salt rim and fresh fruit sprinkled with Tajin, like you might find at a Street Cart in Mexico. I love how nuanced and layered the flavours are; the (very) subtle addition of salt brings out the juiciness of the melon, while more herbaceous notes of nettle and moringa balance out the sweetness and give this more of an upscale cocktail kind of vibe versus melon candy.

As many people know I’ve been dreaming of DT carrying a Salted Watermelon inspired blend for many, many years and this tea let me realize that dream but with a gentle, spicy twist!!

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
