From Cultivate Tea

黄山梅花

Harvest
January 2021

Origin
Huangshan, Anhui

This is the first tea we received from 2021! The delicate white blossoms are harvested in early January from majestic plum trees that are around 60 years old. The trees are left to grow on their own, with minimal human intervention all year round. No sprays are used. The blossoms are dried naturally on bamboo trays, without the use of sulphites or bleach.

Traditionally, plum blossoms are treasured for their medicinal benefits – it calms the liver and stomach, and clears heat and dryness.

Soothing and calming, it is nutty and savory, with pronounced notes of almond.

Only 1 to 2 grams are needed per serving. Each serving will make around 2 to 3 cups of tea. Enjoy as is, or sweeten slightly with honey.

Because I bought so many teas on the Sunday I arrived in Vancouver, I was really spoiled for options of things to make in the mornings/evenings at my AirBNB.

This was something I picked up at Cultivate based on the amazingly sweet, light and nutty aroma of the sample tin I was able to smell. I’ve had plum blossoms blended into tea before (from Rishi) but didn’t totally fall in love with the taste, but this made me want to give it a second chance. Plus, I love trying more unique straight herbs.

I’m glad I did because WOW this was amazing. Lighter bodied but really fragrant with the most amazing sweet marzipan-like almond and cherry like taste with undertones of cooked milk that made me think of white rabbit candies. So incredibly unique and just really quite a magical brewing experience that I’m excited to now share with some different coworkers.
