Sipdown (487)!

Another Butiki tea courtesy of Kittenna – although this another that I never got a chance to try. If I remember correctly it was a ‘mystery’ flavour that Stacy released during her closing sales? I can’t remember exactly what flavours it ended up being in actuality, though.

To me, however, I’m getting really robust and sweet notes of almond, cream, and red fruits such as strawberry, cherry, currant, and pomegranate. A mix of all those sort of red fruit notes though to create one big and somewhat more generic “red superfruit” instead of super clear distinct notes of ALL those red fruits. The almond cream mix makes me think of marzipan though, and I also get grenadine a little bit from the overall sweet, syrupy quality of the red fruit notes. It’s impressive how rich and robust the flavours are given the age of the overall.

The base itself is pretty strong too; it’s a CTC grade which means a lot more leaf surface to water when steeping which is automatically gonna make it a really intense, full bodied brew but it’s still quite smooth with rich notes of malt and a brisk, clean finish. Hints of cacao, and a bit of bread like taste too. It works well with the added flavours.

Loved this one overall – it was a REALLY strong, pleasant cup! Glad I got to experience it!

Kittenna

This was indeed one of the mystery flavours from the closing sales. I don’t believe I got #1, or if I did, it was a sample of someone else’s pouch.

I guess the only time I logged this tea was before the contest was over, so I didn’t say anything about what was in it! I bet Stacy might remember or have it noted somewhere.

Roswell Strange

I actually hunted it down out of curiosity, and on the FB page she says it’s the Crimson Horizon base with added marshmallow, raspberry, and pistachio flavours :)

Kittenna

Oh wow, I didn’t think to look there! I did check my Steepster messages + email though to see if I could find a record of my guesses, but couldn’t. That combo sounds familiar now!

I actually prefer this now to when I first got it. The raspberry has mellowed out and now the flavours are much more balanced. The pistachio and marshmallow bring out a sort of praline feel in the initial sip, and then it ends on a creamy raspberry note. I’m working on tweaking my steeping parameters so that I can drink the CTC without milk, because it shines so much more without. I can’t get through a full mug plain though as I’m quite sensitive to astringency, but I’m working on it! Upping the rating from 70, because I can actually pick out the marshmallow and pistachio now.

I got a sample of this somewhere along the line, but I’m not sure from who at this point. I tried it before, but don’t remember what I thought of it. I’m getting a slight bitter taste and maybe a little malt hidden behind that. As it cools the flavors merge and mellow a little. There is something fruity hidden in the aftertaste. A grapefruit flavor? With a hint of cherry? I’m so confused! LOL!

Haven’t a clue what this is, haven’t a clue what the story is, no idea about anything really. Other than, of course. OMGsrlsy gave this to me on a dark and stormy night in downtown Vancouver, as if we were dealing (gasp) drugs! The horrors.

Package had someone else’s name on it (sorry James), with the instructions to steep for one minute. Really?! It’s a… gosh words, come to me now… the kind of tea that looks like coffee grounds, and of course the word escapes me. Anyway. Butiki’s Premium Chai has the same base (I think), and I luuuuuv’s me that tea. So, I’m in. Let’s try it. Just enough for 12 oz.

I steep it for one minute, and I’m confused. It doesn’t taste like much of anything. It smells a touch fruity though… so I’m in, I steep it a bit longer.

Steeped a bit longer (another 3-4 minutes) I get a bit of… licorice? something fruity still, and, no, that’s black licorice. Isn’t it? Jeepers. I can’t tell. I’m also eating salted chocolate and feel like a truck hit me since about 9pm last night, so, you know, really professional review here and all folks.

Haven’t tried this, but I think I recall this being a CTC. That chocolate sounds yummy and I hope you feel better soon!

OMGsrsly

It’s a really badly scribbled “Jones” actually. Hahaha. :) It’s just… fruity I think. I really like the base tea – Crimson Horizon.

MissB

Haha! Really? Cuz there’s a last name listed, too.. I thought maybe it was that it’s coffee flavored, and that was what I didn’t catch initially in the flavor.

Sil

was that my scribbling? if so..oopsy if not.. YAAAY! haha

Yum.

Thank you, Sil.

Edit: Did no one else get this tea other than Sil and Kittenna?!

Indigobloom

Looks like Kittenna had some. Must have been before I got there!

Plunkybug

Never even heard of it.

keychange

Haven’t heard of this either!

MissB

Not I.

OMGsrsly

Oh wait. Read the note before you post. This one was not a thanks MissB one. But still if you’d like to try I’ll give you the rest of the sample. Hahaha.

OMGsrsly

I’ve had more of this today. Yum yum yum.

so i’ve had this a couple times now…i’m actually surprised no one’s written anything about it. Long story short… it’s not bad, but it’s not my favourite. I’m thinking maybe jonesmcomgjonessrsly might find this one appealing since it’s on a base she loves. I’ll finish it if i must, but if it can find a happier home, that would be better. :)

Final Count: 106 (6 more to go for month end!)

Kittenna

Mmhmm, because she loves the base so much, I’d also suspect she would like it. I thought it was ok, but I preferred the nut flavourings with the base instead of fruity flavours.

Drank this. Was good. Not divulging anything about it yet.

Sil

is that mystery tea #1 or 2?

Kittenna

#2, sorry!
