From Bitterleaf Teas

Dancong wulongs, at least the good ones, are not always known for being budget-friendly, but this tea changes that.

Just as with puer, some of the older leaves from Dancong bushes make their way into pickings. After the first roast, they’re more noticeable due to their yellow colour and stiffness/resistance to rolling. These leaves are sorted out and referred to as “lao cha tou”, which is a bit confusing for those of us versed in puer, where lao cha tou refers to a byproduct of the shou puer process.

This tea would be considered the same as what we call huangpian. Just as with the puer equivalent, this tea is soft and sweet with a nice minerality that is easy to accept. While the experience lacks the complexity of some more expensive Dancongs, this tea can be just as enjoyable, especially if seeking something to drink casually or that doesn’t require the same kind of focus.

This particular tea is a blend of sorted huangpian from high quality material of Baxian, Milanxiang, Aofuhou and Xiondi varietals. It’s not intended to reflect the characteristics of any particular varietal, but serve as a great value dancong for daily drinking.
