From Awazon Tea (www.pu-erhtea.com)

Bulang mountain is one of the famous tea mountains in Menghai county,Yunnan, China. The Maocha (sundried large-leaf, as material for making raw Pu-erh tea cake) harvested in this area gives distinctive features of strong flavor and lingering aftertaste. This raw Pu-erh tea cake is manufactured by using early spring Maocha from Bulang mountain, 100% pure material (not blended).

(This is for the 2006. I got some of Awazon’s large samples to try out the cheaper end of the market).

I got one of their 100g samples of this for $4.99, and am pleasantly surprised! It is still quite fruity to start with plus a bit of smoke. The smoke kicks in harder at steep 3 but doesn’t take over entirely.

Decent-sized leaf, mostly whole – this isn’t a chop cake.

I was feeling very dozy and it woke me up!

Nicer to drink than it has any right to be.

First noticed a light smokey aroma when I made the first rinse. The first steeping at 30 seconds. Smoke was still prevalent with notes of citrus. The tea left a full taste in the mouth and left me with a calm, pleasant feeling. Susequent steepings kept the citrus taste going. Excellent mid price raw tea cake.
