From American Tea Room

Samovar Blend is a boldly smoky, polarizing tea that has devoted legions of fans and plenty of people who simply do not care for it. A traditional Russian blend, sometimes referred to as Russian Caravan, this tea blends a super smoky Lapsang Souchong with a rich, earthy Chinese Yunnan black tea. If you love cigars, smoked meats, scotch, or dark roast coffee, then read on: this tea is sure to count you as a fan. The blue-black leaves of Samovar Blend have an abundant, lightly sweet pine smoke aroma that permeates the entire room when a package of it is opened. Its dark ruby infusion carries similar aromas of pine smoke, with added notes of charred firewood, tobacco, leather and peat moss. The flavor is thickly, richly smoky, with some acidity, light astringency and pervasive woody sweetness. The aftertaste is one of smoke-cured meats. If you love intense smokiness, then you have found your ideal tea!

This tea is certified USDA Organic.

Your tea is hand packed in a resealable pouch at no additional charge. For an additional $5 you can select our new Black Triangle Signature Canister.

Sipdown no. 1 of March 2019 (no. 36 of 2019 total, no. 524 grand total). A sample.

I am in a difficult position with black teas. I don’t currently have any that I’ve rated any lower than 79, which is a very solid rating.

So I’m into the great tea sipdown territory, and that is both good and bad. Good, for obvious reasons. Bad because some of the teas I’ll be sipping down, like this one, are really lovely and no longer available.

This is one of those. It tastes the same as it did when I broke open the packet a year ago — so I don’t have anything to add to my initial note. Other than that it is another reason I’m sorry ATR is no longer around.

At some point I’ll have to sip down the rest of my Brioche sample, and then I’ll REALLY be sad.

I second that. Although I did not purchase from ATR often, I loved and still do love several of their teas thoroughly. I am sorry that they are no longer around.
