Back in March, I decided to celebrate my one-year of A Quarter to Tea subscription boxes by blogging about my “Anniversary Box” which included Green Velvet Cake, Pistachio and Cream Cookie, Hot Cross Buns, and this tea.
This was my least favorite of the four teas in the box. Mostly that is due to me not really being the target audience for a blend like this. This had a bitter dark chocolate and alcohol vibe for sure. It also has a dried fruit/raisin/prune quality to it. I could see others enjoying this but it was not for me.
Green Velvet Cake and Pistachio and Cream Cookie were middle of the pack for me. Green Velvet Cake was a little vegetal for my tastes and was more frosting than cake. Meanwhile Pistachio and Cream Cookie made me think of a cookie with a hint of brown sugar, a hint of spice, and the distinct pistachio nuttiness. It also had a strong rose flavor which completely seemed out of place.
Hot Cross Buns was the stand out in the box by far. It was so good. The yunnan base had a strong bread flavor and the lemongrass tasted like a sweet glaze drizzled on top. The raisin pops up every now and again as an explosion of juicy sweetness, just as a raisin in a bun would explode when you bit into it. Honestly, this tea just captured fresh baked goods perfectly…warm, spicy, sweet, doughy and delicious!
