Apple Brandy Cheesecake Oolong:
Tea of the Week 10/12-10/18
Sweet apples and tart cheesecake come together for the perfect decadent fall treat! Brandy and caramel finish it off bringing out the honey notes in the roasted oolong base. This is definitely the treat in ‘trick or treat’ing.
This tea is limited run, so once it is gone, it’s gone for the season. It is sold only in 0.5oz quantities.

This is an indulgent blend. The cream and brandy notes hit up front while the base tea adds a slight driness. The apple flavor comes to the fore as the tea cools. This actually reminds me of AQTT’s Caramel Baked Apple Oolong, which I also like a lot. The apple note was prominent in the second steep here. I added manuka honey for sweetness in the second steep but overdid it a bit so the tea also tasted like manuka, which played nicely with the apple and brandy and worked out well.

Lovely leaf—curly, slender, and wiry.
In that first cup, I tasted very very faint sweet notes: apple, more rum than brandy, and the slightest hint of cream. A bit astringent despite a short two-minute steep. The cream note is along the lines of ice cream. I am not sure how the flavour is so faint and yet each sip leaves the vaguest of sweetness on my lips.
I’d like to note that I am finding these flavours because I am looking for them based on the name of the tea. Otherwise, I likely wouldn’t be able to identify them.
On the second steep with slightly cooler water, the flavour of the tea comes up nicely with a hint of apple. I taste houjicha rather than oolong. Odd. Is it a blend? Or am I missing something? Is my inexperience showing?
My leaf is from a sample. Thankfully, I have enough for maybe one more cup left. I think slightly cooler than boiling is the way to go with this tea. My rating reflects optimism that the next cup will be far better with cooler water from the get go.
Flavors: Apple, Cream, Rum
I definitely thing I find things because the name or description says I should. I feel like without those, most of my notes would be like “this is sweet”, “this is not sweet”, “this is probably a fruit”, “found the hibiscus!” (not that my current notes are all that insightful :P)

The brandy taste came trough like someone split some alcohol in my third steeping of some DHP. However, I’m not sure if I wanted that low note of silk cream that comes out for the cheesecake. The apple brandy was enough for me with the oolong in the background.
I’ll probably get some more of this and infuse some apple cider with it during January because I do crazy things.

- Pot of tea w. mom
- Definitely apple notes, richer than Caramel Baked Apple = Good
- Cheesecake is subtle but there’s definite creaminess throughout
- Which is more exaggerated in the finish
- Slight roasty/toastyness from the base combo
- Definitely a fruityness outside of just apple as well: brandy?
- Very tasty; perfect level of sweetness and medium body
