I don’t taste or smell any butterscotch or blood orange. As always, it’s a high quality black tea, and I can detect some light flavoring, but it’s impossible to tell what it’s supposed to be. Maybe I taste the tiniest bit of burnt sweetness? Not really though. The second time I had this, I leafed and timed it properly, but it tasted like almost nothing except very mild black tea.

I can smell butterscotch and even taste it midsip, but then it dives into bitter citrus zest, pith, and seed territory in a way that doesn’t mesh well for me (I did steep this for longer so it’s brisker than previous cups). There’s a hint of blood orange in the finish and lingering taste, and it becomes more distinctive as I sip away at my cup. I’m reminded a bit of “Grapefruit Creme Brulee” as time passes, or, oddly, of an Orange Julius.

I think I want more butterscotch and a sweeter orange (or some other ingredient/flavour combo to give this a sweet and creamy edge over the tartness – like banana, possibly?). Interesting concept though!

Ooh, blood orange, banana, butterscotch? Could be interesting. I felt the same about this tea – I expected something more flavourful and decadent. Wouldn’t change the base, though, just add flavouring!

I believe Roswell suggested banana-blood orange as well, but I’ve also got bananas on the brain because of Orange Julius (banana, orange, egg/cream smoothie monstrosity. Could be good.).

But any increase in flavour would be nice here. My previous sessions with this tea weren’t half as flavourful or distinctive as this last cup; the tea would’ve gradually grown on me if I’d gotten it to steep up like this every time!

I haven’t had an OJ in too long, but as a child I think my parents customized for half/half of the Orange Original and the Strawberry Banana Original (or requested the addition of banana in the Orange Original; memory is foggy, but I got Orange and Banana together sometimes, somehow.).

Over the few cups I had, I just couldn’t get this one to work for me.

I can smell a hint of something butterscotch-caramelly, and I can see the blood orange pieces, but I can’t taste much of anything. It sort of tastes like “flavoring” to me, and a decent black base. I don’t get anything remotely resembling butterscotch or citrus…

I’m perplexed, did this maybe need to settle longer before I drank it? But I think it was from a couple of months ago, so that doesn’t seem right… :(

…yeah, I’m still not meshing well with this one.

It’s okay, because I’m glad to have tried it – it’s such an interesting profile that I know if I hadn’t ordered it then it would have been one of those teas I’d always be kicking myself for not trying. Though, I wanted to add that in this cup I got a closer look at the little wedges of blood orange in the dry leaf and they were fucking gorgeous. I’d be really curious to see some different Blood Orange blends utilizing them, if it’s a flavour that Anne decides to work with in the future…

Maybe a “Blood Orange & Banana” (AKA Blood Orange You Glad I Didn’t Say Banana) or a Blood Orange Creamsicle!? I don’t know – just spit balling. Feel totally free to flat out ignore me.
