Tea of the Week for April 20, 2020!

Our Third tea from our “Celebration of Spring” Collection!

I’ve made a couple of Yerba Mate blends so far & I think this one may be my best Mate effort yet!

As with my previous blends, I combined our green Yerba Mate with our roasted Yerba Mate – but with this particular blend, I went heavier on the green Mate than the roasted – I wanted the fresh, green notes to be the stronger flavor in this composition.Read more

For the sipdown prompt, “a yerba mate.” It’s been a long time since the weather wasn’t so abhorrent that I had no interest in making a hot cup of tea in the morning, so I took advantage today.

Both the dried leaf and brewed tea have a strong and appealing lime aroma. There is an underlying earthiness on the nose beneath the lime, as well. That pretty much describes the flavor, too. A heavy, citrus-tangy lime with a slightly earthy undertone… I get more roasty notes than green notes. There is a hint of cream in the aftertaste.

Tasty. The bright citrus and soft roastiness make this a nice summer-to-autumn transitional tea.

L is for… Lime Marshmallow Mate!

Like the lime, and the marshmallow really helps temper the mate, but I just don’t really like the earthiness of the mate. For a mate blend, it’s not bad, though.

WandaVision Binge Watch – Ep 5

At this point I realllyyyy should have switched to something caffeine free but since this was the 80s episode I could not get this image of Lime Jello salad out of my brain. I know that Jello Salad dishes were most popular in the 50s, where the series began, but for some reason my brain reaaalllyyy associates Lime Jello in particular with the 80s. I did try to find a caffeine free option that would fit the same idea, but I struck out and so I stuck with my instinct and made this Yerba Mate instead.

Caffeine was a bad idea, and I spent much of this episode feeling like I was moving faster than Quicksilver – only the then absolutely lose it at the end of the episode. I barely remember the taste of the tea – only the sweetness of it.

I know I say this a lot – like a lot a lot – but I LOVE this tea. The earthiness of the yerba mate (a blend of both fresh green & roasted mate) seems to be the perfect companion for the bright lime notes. The marshmallow softens the overall flavor. It’s really quite nice and comes together in a really tasty way.

I just looked at my clock to see that it’s now 1:24 am so I’m drinking this kinda late (early?) but I guess – it’s OK since I don’t have anywhere to be tomorrow and since it’s Saturday, it’s not a day to be making any calls that need to be made.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

No way, better than Lime Jello Salad? Ralph Wiggum would say that that’s unpossible!

To be fair, my Lime Jello Salad has aged and now the lime leaves/citrusy ingredients are coming across as kind of.. pissy? And mate has more caffeine, or at least I like to think it has more caffeine. I need to believe in that right now.

Mate is so invigorating (that is, caffeinated)! I remember last year when I was testing it again – after a couple of years of even having any – & it was like a Matcha high on steroids! I was buzzing – but not in a bad way at all. Just – I can’t drink it very late because it will keep me up for another few hours.
