Tea of the Week for June 4, 2018!

The end of May is birthday time around here – both Amethyst’s birthday and mine are at the very end of May. Since the end of the month is when I announce the featured reblend for the month and this is a new tea, I decided to save this tea for the first week of June rather than the end of May. I am taking a break from trying to drink my older teas so that I can try a newer blend, Birthday Cake Genmaicha…and the birthday cake genmaicha lollipop that is infused with this tea.

This tea is good. It has cute and colorful sprinkles which make it fun, including the purple heart sprinkles from the cotton candy genmaicha tea. Tastewise, this reminds me a lot of the cotton candy genmaicha tea which makes sense since both cotton candy and birthday cake are sugary sweet nostalgic treats. This is perhaps a little smoother, with fewer popped rice notes, which gives more of an icing impression than cotton candy. It would be interesting to do a side by side comparison of the two.

Cake flavoring is a whole lot stronger in the lollipop. Like, it is unsettling how the lollipop tastes like cake and it is buttery and sweet which comes off like buttercream icing. It’s weird because it is accurate and so accurate that I don’t know if it like it. Imagine if someone took one of the sweet grocery store slab cakes and threw it onto a lollipop. It’s a whole lot of sweet on sweet on sweet. The tea is more balanced which I like.
