From 52teas

No, this isn’t cat flavored.

This tea was created as an incentive fulfillment for our start-up Kickstarter campaign. Our generous backer wanted a tea that was inspired by the Samoa cookie (from the Girl Scouts!) but since we can’t use “Samoa” because we don’t want legal action from those girls in green, I asked our backer to come up with a name and because she’s fond of cats, she decided to name the tea as a tribute to her favorite furry four-legged friend.

So, imagine for a moment – black tea (a beautiful blend of black teas from our friends at Verdant Tea) flavored with chocolate, coconut and caramel. YUM! I added a generous sprinkling of cacao shells, cacao nibs and even some cute little chocolate chips – yes, they’re vegan! – and then I added some shreds of unsweetened coconut. The dry leaf is quite beautiful and the colors reminiscent of a calico cat!

You really should try this one!

Ingredients: black teas, cacao nibs, cacao shells, mini vegan chocolate chips, shredded coconut & all-natural flavors.

I found four 52teas marked December 2015 that hadn’t even been opened or logged in my cupboard. :( This is what I get for not drinking tea for a long time.

This tea is made of Verdant Teas and chocolate, caramel, and coconut flavorings. Unfortunately, coconut is one of those flavorings that does not last and has a tendency to go rancid. The dry leaf smelled okay but the brewed tea smells bad. It’s definitely from the coconut. I’m going to let it cool and then try it and hope for the best.

The taste is actually okay. Mostly, I get coconut and cocoa nibs. The weird aroma doesn’t make its way into the flavor. This isn’t bad, especially if you take into consideration that it’s over three years old!

Three years? Has Anne been presiding over 52teas for three years now?

Almost. June is our 3 year anniversary.

I know I reviewed this just yesterday but I decided to prioritise drinking this tea since coconut is just about the only tea ingredient that I know of that goes bad over time so I can’t let it age as much as the rest of my cupboard. I have another tin of this at home too, this is just the work stash.

Still fantastic. Even better than yesterday, actually, since I’m not eating anything right now to interfere with the flavour. This just hits the spot. I may start every morning with this for a while (after my daily chai).

Thank you for the reminder. I know this in theory, but you know, we, tea people, get side-tracked. On it. Today, I will shift a few of the coconut teas more towards the front lines of action.

Glad to be of service!

Old soapy coconut, blech! I have had citrus turn in tea too. Oranges especially get this alkaline tang that ruins the tea for me.

Starfevre

I guess I’ve never let a citrusy tea age that much as I have never noticed that, but I don’t get a lot of citrus teas in general. Coconut is definitely the worst though.

My mom is cooking for passover so the kettle is impossible to get to. I did squeak by at some point and brew this up though. It is has made for one chocolatey tea. Creamy chocolate with coconut undertones. This could probably be a good latte though I wonder if the gentle coconut would come through. Luckily I have a big bag of this to experiment with so we shall see.

Cold Brew Sipdown (125)!

Thanks for the sample Kittenna! This one is pretty nice; very very chocolatey with a nice coconut undertone. It’d be good for an after dinner sweet craving fix. However, while I find it pretty tasty it’s also pretty average as far as chocolate teas go. Nothing to phone home over.
