Picnic in the Park Oolong

Got this one from tea-sipper this summer. To me, this tea is pretty straightforward. You get the oolong flavor and the freeze dried strawberry flavor. Oolong isn’t my favorite, so I find this tea to be nice, but I wouldn’t choose it regularly.

This is really quite good. I’m enjoying how the flavors blend together. It’s lightly flavored and fruity. I’m mostly tasting sweet strawberry with bits of melon and underlying mineral and petrichor notes from the oolong itself. The name suits it. It does make me think of sitting by a rocky creek in the late spring or early summer eating fresh fruit. I need to check out more flavored oolongs since most of the ones I’ve tried have been really interesting.

Okay, I know there’s watermelon in the photo for this tea, but for some reason I was just expecting strawberry and champagne flavours with the oolong, and I could taste the melon but not quite put my finger on what it was, and it was really bugging me. And then I realized that there’s supposed to be melon flavour in this, and that there is, indeed, melon flavour, and all was well.

The oolong base is there, but not really distinctive, and I find myself wishing for an oolong with really strong orchid notes, because flowers would just round out the picnic in the park theme, but this is still tasty, though maybe not a rebuy for me.

Randomly picked this one tonight. I completely forgot I had this one. It’s enjoyable while I’m cooking dinner. It’s enjoyable. The oolong stands out in this one. Kind of a mineral flavor but still sweet. The strawberry and champagne lend kind of a tart note but blends well with the oolong :)

Additional notes: I’m trying to throw a couple more summery teas in the infuser since it still seems like summer for a couple more days. This is the perfect choice for last minute summer teas. I love the whole deal of this tea. The name! The flavors! Three solid steeps with lingering flavor, which is surprising for such an old tea. Maybe not watermelon anymore, but definitely strawberry and champagne. I love it. I wish I were on a picnic.

For a second I thought that I hadn’t added this one to my cupboard…

I like this one but don’t know how to describe the taste of it. I remember the description saying something about champagne and strawberries, and, honestly, the intended taste of this one is probably lost on me. I’ve never had champagne and strawberries taste mostly tart to me.

The most I can say about this one is that it’s sweet and mild and I like it. See? Such a disservice.

Wow does Oolong expand! This took up my whole PerfecTea maker! I’ll have to watch it next time. This tea isn’t one of my favorites but still an enjoyable cup. This particular cup didn’t have much strawberry in it :/

Not overly impressed with this one… I’ll have to give it another shot not in a travel mug, but I got very little flavour from it beyond a general fruitiness on a mediocre oolong base. It wasn’t bad, certainly drinkable, but could have been much better. Sigh.

Backlog:

I loved this tea. And it’s very much like a picnic in the park: sweet-tart strawberry, luscious watermelon, and light champagne-y notes. Of course, if I were having a picnic in the park … there would also be chocolate, unfortunately, there is no chocolate to this tea.

There would also be ants. Fortunately, they’re not part of this tea either.

So this is a “Frank didn’t consult with LiberTEAS about what to include in the picnic basket and also didn’t invite the ants to come to the picnic either” tea. That would have been a bit wordy for the label. So, Picnic in the Park sort of just … condenses it without being as specific as my name for this tea.

It’s a delicious and refreshing tea. It makes a seriously yummy iced tea.

I cold brewed this, and was pleasantly surprised to find that after my recent dissapointments, I didn’t hate this one. It’s mostly strawberry, with another fruity note that might or might not be watermelon, and an aroma that I could almost believe is champagne-like. And I realized as I was dumping the leaves, that they looked like they could be steeped again. Oh well, next time.

All and all, I like this, but probably not enough to restock. It is the first 52teas that I received recently that I actually finished all of what I made.
