Countdown to Catching Up – Tea 7 (Counting Down from 10 to 1!)
I honestly cannot believe I didn’t think of creating this flavor any sooner than I did & to be perfectly honest, I didn’t actually come up with the flavor on my own. I came across a recipe for a Chai Spiced Rice Krispy Treat & if this was a cartoon, a lightbulb would have appeared over my head.
I mean, seriously, chai spiced teas – I love them! How could I not have thought, “Hey, I should make a chai spiced Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha!” Anyway, whatever it took to reach this point, I’m glad I’m finally there, because this is fantastic! The classic Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha flavors are there – a bit subdued thanks to the presence of the spices – but that flavor is still there. And then we have the spice! Nice! I didn’t try to go too subtle for the spices here since this is supposed to be a chai spiced tea, but they are certainly more subtle than for a black tea based chai.
The combination of the two dynamic flavor profiles are wonderful! Sweet yet warmly spiced. Notes of autumnal spices like cinnamon, ginger, cardamom & clove. A hint of black pepper & nutmeg. Delightful! It’s also organic, vegan, gluten-free, allergen-friendly & all natural!
organic ingredients: green tea, toasted & popped rice, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, black pepper, nutmeg, marshmallow root, vanilla bean & natural flavors
to brew: before measuring, you want to give the pouch a gentle shake to make sure that you get all the ingredients incorporated throughout. Use 3g of tea to 12oz of very hot water (heated to 175°F) & steep for 2 minutes. Strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes. Enjoy!
serving suggestion: I tend to prefer my chai blends served hot with a little bit of sugar (about ½ a teaspoon per serving) & this blend is no exception. The sweetener helps elevate the flavor of the spices in a chai, so I really think a bit of sweetener is essential if you want those spices to fully express themselves in the cup!
It’s still a tasty cuppa without the sweetener, but I do think that the sweetener really brings those spicy notes to life. This tea is also really good as a cold-brew! I find that as the tea get cooler, the marshmallow notes tend to pop!
