This tea is deliciously unique. Notes of mango & coconut meld together with a touch of vanilla, while the notes of my classic pancake breakfast tea weave their way throughout every sip. A lovely way to start the day!

Tea of the Week for June 17, 2024!

This tea took a little bit of tweaking to get the flavors that I wanted, but I think I did it! So much yum in one cuppa!

It starts with a black tea base of Yunnan & Assam teas. I then added mangoes, coconut & vanilla bean. Finally, I added pancake, maple & butter essence! It sounds like a lot going on, but it turned out awesome.

The pancake breakfast notes are subtle, but they develop as you continue to sip. The mango & coconut meld together beautifully & the vanilla accentuates the two tropical fruits really nicely. It’s smooth, fruity with notes of starchy pancakes with a hint of butter & a kiss of maple. It’s not overly one particular flavor but more a medley of all the flavors together. It’s really unique & very tasty – it’s also organic, vegan & gluten-free!

organic ingredients: black teas, mangoes, coconut, vanilla bean & natural flavors

to brew: shake the pouch well before you measure – as there are quite a few ingredients in this and you want to be sure to have everything well distributed before you measure. Use 3g of tea to 12oz of nearly boiling water. Steep for 3 ½ minutes & strain. Enjoy!

serving suggestion: I’ll be honest and tell you that I didn’t try this iced. As I mentioned in the description above, I had to go through several layers of tweaking, so, by the time I finished all of it, I was up against my deadline – so I simply didn’t have the time to try it iced. But I will tell you that served hot (which is generally how I prefer to drink my “breakfast-y” blends like pancake breakfast teas) this tea is amazingly good. I added a teensy bit of sugar to the cup & it enhanced the overall flavors of the cup – the mangoes were brighter, the coconut, smoother – the vanilla & maple essence, more apparent. It’s good without sweetener, but with it – it’s over the top amazingly good.

The scent of fresh mango was super strong. The first time, it turned out a little astringent seeming even though I steeped this shorter than the recommended time. The resteep was somehow tastier than the first steep. It was mostly super mapley pancakes, which was nice! On subsequent steeps, I kept the time under three minutes and let it cool completely before drinking. Then it became really wonderful, blending the mango, coconut, and maple perfectly.

I would never have thought of mango and maple together, but I can see how they’d fit!

Totally makes me think of Hawai’i, where the intersection of breakfast/brunch and tropical fruits seems to be a major thing! Still dreaming of the guava chiffon pancakes…

Now that sounds amazing!!

Sharedown

Another tea I had a couple of times and shared to my new tea friend. (A while back I gave her Blueberry Lemon Lavender and she used it for tea with her young daughters and they all loved it. She highly recommends it as a tea party tea!)

I had never had mango by itself that I can recall so I don’t know exactly what it tastes like. I liked this blend a lot, and mostly I tasted a slightly toned down maple syrup in comparison to Pancake Breakfast Black, with a bit of creaminess and vanilla. If I squint, I might detect some fruit but since I don’t know what mango tastes like, I don’t know if that is what I am tasting,

I have asked my friend to report back once she drinks it but I don’t know if she has ever had mango. Lovely tasting blend, though!

Mango has a very juicy and sweet-tangy tropical flavor. I see it described as peach and pineapple together, and I guess that’s somewhat accurate? Sometimes there is a slightly piney note to it as well.

ashmanra

That sounds wonderful! I love pineapple in drinks and desserts. I think this tea had a more lightly fruity vibe, less tropical to me. It could just be me.

Definitely give one a try sometime if your local grocery carries them. For science! ;)

For science! It sounds delicious!

Re: Mangos. You don’t eat the skin. When ripe, they yield to gentle finger pressure. They have a large hairy flat pod embedded in the flesh which can be difficult to cut out. Since your goal is to get the flavor, I suggest just buying a small bag of frozen mango chunks at Walmart or other grocer. Remove a few pieces and let them thaw to room temperature before tasting. I like them in fruit salad with melon, berries and citrus. Mango can be very sweet, so it goes well with tart or less-sweet fruits and melons and yogurts. If you buy the whole fruit, it takes practice to remove the skin and pit, and frozen is nearly as delicious, even when eaten as a snack while frozen. A mainstay of smoothies (and daquiris).

Thanks for the advice, TeaEarleGreyHot!

Now that I have NOT mistakenly thrown this tea into the infuser with another tea, I can write a proper tasting note.  This blend sounded intriguing, so I just HAD to buy a sample of it.  Mango and coconut!  Such an abundance of these fruits are in the blend itself — huge pieces of coconut.  Huge cubes of mango.   I wanted the starchiness of these fruits to shine.  Sadly, not much starch in the mug.  Really, the fruits here somehow mostly tasted like apple to me (though there is no apple in the blend and no apple flavoring).  If I had to guess what tea I was drinking, I would almost guess it was Simpson & Vail’s Apple Cinnamon French Toast blend —almost exactly.   That was surprising!  A good flavored tea, but not really what I was expecting, as 52Teas flavoring is usually very on point.
Steep #1 //  1 1/2 teaspoons for a full mug // 25 minutes after boiling // 2 minute steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // 3-4 minute steep

I’ve never actually had Mango Coconut Pancakes – I don’t know if any such thing actually exists, but if I went to a restaurant and saw such a thing on a menu, I’d definitely order it.

Actually, my original plan was to go with a mango pancake idea, but after I did my initial taste test, I found myself wanting more from it, so I decided to add a little bit of coconut & vanilla to the blend. I’m glad I did that, because I love the way the creaminess of these two ingredients enhances the starchy pancake notes & the maple. The mango & coconut – not surprisingly – play so well together. While this tea does have a lot going on – it all comes together really nicely. It’s really a flavorful medley of tastes in one teacup.

I drank this hot today, mostly because I tend to prefer our pancake teas as hot beverages, but I think it would be delicious iced too.
