Tea of the Week for May 13, 2024!

This tea is inspired by one of my favorite junk food items – something I really should never eat because they’re really, really bad – with absolutely no nutritional value whatsoever – but there’s something about that squishy marshmallow coated with coconut that brings a smile to my face. And really – that’s my favorite part of this snack – because the cake inside the marshmallow enclosure is quite dry & the chocolate is – just – not great. The cream filling pleases my sweet tooth – but really, my favorite part of the snack is the marshmallow & coconut.

So, when I headed to the tea studio, I decided that I wanted to create a marshmallow & coconut tea. I wasn’t sure what base to use – but the kukicha called to me – and as I was blending this tea, I got a weird, twisted thought – and that thought was – let’s call this roasted snowball! Roasted – for the roasty-toasty flavor of kukicha & snowball for the coconut & marshmallow notes. Imagine one of those snack cakes, with the marshmallow enclosure pulled off the cake (which is something I used to do!) and then lightly roasted to get a delightful toasty flavor.

Yummy! This delicious blend starts with an organic roasted kukicha to which I’ve added some marshmallow root & some toasted coconut. This is so much better than I envisioned it to be. It’s sweet & comforting & super tasty! It’s also organic, vegan & gluten-free!

organic ingredients: roasted green tea, marshmallow root, toasted coconut & natural flavors

to brew: shake the pouch well to make sure the ingredients are well-incorporated. Use 3g of tea to 12oz of freshly filtered water, heated to 175°F. Steep for 2 ½ minutes & strain. Enjoy!

serving suggestion: I tend to prefer kukicha – due to its toasty nature – as a hot beverage, but it makes a really nice cold brew too. This makes an amazing latte (just be sure to brew it extra strong to accommodate for the addition of dairy)

Wow! This is a tasty tea. The rich, roasty flavor of the Kukicha is pleasantly complemented by the notes of sweet marshmallow & creamy, toasted coconut.
