Tea of the Week for June 26, 2023!
This month, we’re featuring two reblends (including this one). I had actually intended this to be May’s featured reblend, however, as it turned out, I had more than enough of the Ginger Cola Black Tea to make that May’s featured reblend, but – I still felt like I needed to reblend this one now – because it’s such a great tea for cold-brewing – making it an ideal tea for summer!
Frank’s original blend contained jasmine blossoms & lavender buds – however, I decided not to use them for this blend – because those two flowers do impart a certain flavor on any tea they’re added to – so instead, I chose two more neutral flower petals – cornflower & calendula – to add to the tea (we gotta make it pretty, right?)
I highly recommend cold-brewing this one! Vegan, naturally caffeine-free, gluten-free, organic, allergen-friendly & all natural
organic ingredients: honeybush, vanilla beans, petals (cornflower & calendula) & natural flavors
to brew: give the pouch a gentle upside down shake before you open the pouch to make sure the tiny vanilla beans are redistributed throughout the blend. Use 3 ½ to 4 grams of leaf to 12oz of very hot water (190³F) & steep for 10 minutes. Strain & allow to cool for at least 10 minutes. This tea has some natural sweetness to it, so I would recommend tasting before you start sipping, but I do find the cup just a little more enjoyable with a teensy bit of sugar added (it is a root beer drink, after all & it tastes more like the soft drink with a little bit of sugar.)
serving suggestion: as I mentioned above, this tea was meant for sipping iced! It is great when you hot brew it & then let the tea cool before chilling it. Or you can just skip the hot brew all together and cold-brew it. Either way produces a really flavorful drink.
It’s good hot too, but personally, I like it best chilled. I don’t really find hot root beer too appealing – although it is still good served hot – it’s simply better chilled.
