Tea of the Week for July 11, 2022!
This – the 3rd in our smoothie series for this summer – is a blend of mangos, bananas & blackberries – together with our Chinese Sencha base & a touch of our special smoothie base recipe of essence. It’s creamy, fruity, sweet with just a hint of tartness to keep your taste buds interested.
A very refreshing beverage when served iced, this is also quite good as a hot tea. It’s organic, vegan, gluten-free, allergen-free & all natural!
organic ingredients: green tea, mangos, bananas, blackberries & natural flavors
more about this tea: I don’t often get a chance to try every tea that I make as an iced tea, but after this tea’s first taste test, I knew I needed to try it cold brewed. It’s so good. The flavors mingle so beautifully on the palate. I don’t know if I’ve ever tried a smoothie with this combination of flavors before, but now that I’ve tried a tea with this combination of flavors, it makes me want to find a smoothie just like this because I love the way the three fruit flavors come together here.
To be honest, I didn’t really have an inspiration behind the flavor combination. I knew I wanted a smoothie tea that featured mango because generally, when I make a smoothie at home, mango is one of the first fruits that goes into that smoothie – just after I add the banana, of course! So, banana had to be a part of this blend as well. I knew I wanted to add a berry, but over the course of the last couple of months – including this one – I’ve made several teas with strawberry, a couple with raspberry – so I decided I wanted to go with either blackberry or blueberry & since blackberry tends to be my favorite (at least between these two berries), I went with blackberry.
This is a really great tea – a combination of fruits that I came up with because I wanted a mango smoothie tea – I’m really excited at how well these three fruit flavors work together.
to brew: use 3g of leaf to 12oz of very hot water (175°F) & allow to steep for 2 minutes. Strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes before you start sipping.
serving suggestion: I love this one iced! Cold-brew it (I used 12g of leaf to 2 quarts of freshly filtered water & allowed it to ‘steep’ in the fridge for at least 6-8 hours – or overnight!) & you’ll have a refreshing, delicious beverage. Or, hot brew it (using the same parameters of my ‘to brew’ parameters above) & allow it to cool completely before you chill it. No sugar or other sweetener necessary. If you want a sweeter drink, it’s good with a little drizzle of honey.
I also enjoy this one hot – but it really shines as an iced tea.
