Arby Advent Backlog
While I don’t prefer this to licorice root-based teas, I quite enjoyed this one! It has that classic flavor, basically what you’d expect. Unlike with licorice root, you need to sweeten it a little to make the flavors come together. I shared this one with my dad when I was visiting, and he absolutely loved it.

Would you say that fennel has the same flavor as licorice root but without the cloying aftertaste? I’m not sure I’ve had fennel in a tea before, but it sounds interesting. I do like it in other things!

I think so! I really enjoy the aftertaste in licorice root, but I understand how others don’t!

Yes, I feel like it’s definitely one of those love/hate sort of foods!

I’m one of those few people in Camp Fennel/Anise/Licorice Root. I love black licorice flavors. :-)

Advent calendar day 7: Plain/straight herbals

I’m starting to run out of ideas for caffeine-free tea themes, but since I have quite a few straight herbals I thought this could occupy one or two days. This is a tisane made of fennel seed. It smalls and tastes similar to anise or liquorice, but when it grows it looks more like dill. I actually really like anise and fennel in teas (far more than licorice root), so I find this a decent herbal for calm evenings or just to have something to drink. I originally bought fennel seed tea to help with stomach aches/digestion upsets and now I find I enjoy it enough to drink it regularly.

The dry tea has prominent and distinctive smell. The only thing I can think of to compare the smell to is licorice allsorts candy. It has been many years since I have eaten licorice allsorts but if I remember correctly it smells like the soft licorice allsorts with the tiny blue or pink colored balls stuck to it.

When I made the tea the smell was not as prominent as when it was dry but I found the taste to be quite pleasant.

This is the real thing, the real fennel tea. this is what it is supposed to taste like. 3-crown does an amazing job with this tea. fennel is good for digestion and soothing sore throats. It just relaxes you in general. Personally, I’m a huge fan of fennel, so this tea is perfect for me. So I would only recommend this tea for people who know that they like fennel. And if you don’t know, well why no time like the present to give this tea a try ;)
