Oh so good.
When I want a chai latte, I often want something really potent and mouth filling, and this is a perfect choice for that.
This has a lot of kick – bold flavour and an intense heat in the throat. Notes of ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, pepper, that all blend together really well.
This is a powdered tea, like matcha, but not as fine as matcha, so quite a lot of sediment sinks to the bottom of the cup. You can keep stirring it to keep it suspended, or let it settle and just leave the last few sips. Either way the flavour is strong and the texture is smooth. Just don’t sip down the settled powder.
Flavors: Cardamom, Cinnamon, Ginger, Pepper, Spicy
Preparation
Oh so tasty. I made this with about 6oz of hot water, 6oz of milk, two teaspoons of sugar, and a teaspoon of chai – tossed the whole thing in the blender and mmmm deliciousness. This has that intense spicy punch that you typically find in cafe chai lattes, which I’ve found difficult to replicate at home. It’s pretty well balanced – there’s cinnamon, but not an over abundance of it, and a fair bit of heat (ginger?).
There was a fair bit of gritty mix at the bottom of my cup, but other than needing to skip the last couple of sips this was pretty damned perfect.
Flavors: Cinnamon, Spicy
Preparation
Don’t know what’s prompted this uncharacteristic adventurous streak…but I took the other half-packet and stirred it into a bowl of cooked stone-cut oats. Chai oatmeal! May have to lay hands on a larger supply of this for culinary purposes this fall.
I forgot which one of you nice people sent this one my way, but thank you!
Our first real raw, damp cool-down of the year. Temps were mid-40’s after dinner last night; so I tried half a packet in a cup of dark chocolate cocoa. Perfect!
I am a chai wimp, so I’m thinking this would be too strong for me straight up. Reminds me of a very potent version of the instant Nestea that used to be around our house when I was a kid.
WOW! Do not use your normal tea measuring spoon! My first cup went down the drain…it was actually viscous at the bottom of the mug! Seriously, the directions are for 1 teaspoon to 1 cup of liquid (50% milk and boiling water). I don’t like it with milk (weird, I know) and figure about 1/2 tsp per cup of boiling water. Stir well, Stir often (keeps the solids in suspension).
Heavy clove and black pepper tastse. Cardamon in there too I’m thinking. This is the “Real Thing”…Soooo good.
Preparation
LOVE this. But I like the full teaspoon. I’ve also found boiling water necessary then just stirring til it’s cool enough to drink. Definitely cuts down on the chunky factor verses just using water cool enough to drink right away. You could also try what I do with matcha- when you get to the end just put a splash more hot water in to drink the last of the “sludge”.
So, super storm hurricane whatever hitting today, raining already and I made it halfway to the office before deciding not to get trapped at work. Reading and cocoa today instead. Pj’s likely. Was going to have chai, but eww. I just ruined a perfectly good cup of coffee by adding a touch of this. I know, I bastardized this tea. Since this is the third time I have attempted to drink this, each time dressing it up more and more, I think can review with some authority though.
I know several people like this, in fact that is why I got it. Maybe they just sent me an off bag, but this is awful. My boyfriend claims it’s a big bag of ground coriander. I have never eaten a coriander, or to my knowledge seen one in the wild. Not sure I can describe it. There is a little ground ginger in this bag, and some cinnamon if I taste really hard, but mostly there is a bitter aromatic herb that has gripped my soft palate and is accumulating there making me kinda ill. I have tried this with some water, milk and sugar, good cream and honey. Pouring those out was sad, but losing a perfectly good cup of french press coffee was the last straw. If my favorite Indian restaurant doesn’t blow or swim away in this storm I will go find out what herb blend he uses.
Probably it’s not the coriander which would be sweet unless it’s bad or something. Is there clove in it? That would be bitter. If you’ve gone this far with the mix and it’s aweful, it should become room freshener!
Hmm. There is clove in it, I guess that might be part of it, but I usually love clove. I loved the gum back when it was around, I used to smoke them, even chewed whole cloves when I was a kid. If it tasted or smelled like that I think I would be ok with it. Maybe it is ground ginger? I love fresh ginger but I know ground it tastes and smells completely different. It’s a pumpkin pie spice. Nutmeg? Lol! I am about to go taste my spice rack just to sort this out!
Appreciate the sample, fellas! But….alas…
NOT a favorite of mine. I followed directions. Instant tea, Im sorry to say, should not need straining. and straining. and picking out little leaf dusts and fishing out little half broken pieces of clove.
Too much work to even enjoy it.
Preparation
Hey Amber, Tipu’s Chai here. I’m not sure what sample you received as we stopped calling it “Microground Instant” last year when we changed the formula. We don’t call it “instant” any more for just that reason – expectations! Chai is made with lots of spices and we didn’t want to use extracts and filler to create a truly “instant” chai. So there will be spices in your cup and we believe that is a sign of REAL chai. It also creates the full bodied chai kick that so many of our fans love. It isn’t for everyone, especially if you don’t want any spice sediment left in the cup (makes the last sip unfriendly). But we think it makes a lovely flavor and allows the health benefits of the spices to really come through. Thanks for taking the time to review us and good luck on your journey through the vast land of tea!
wow, i love this chai! I’m very particular with my masala chai- i find that most mixtures usually taste only of cardamom. this one is just right! it’s peppery, gingery, clove-y…sort of like a strong gingersnap cookie but with cardamom. i added it to hot milk and a little sugar. lovely!!
Made this as a latte today and it was just amazing. I used mostly milk and added a little half and half for a creamy touch. Then I topped it off with whipped cream. I bit decadent but I am worth it. :-)
Preparation
Heck yeah you are! Did you buy this while the code was active? Still waiting for mine- I ordered a pound for myself and 4oz for my neighbor- husband of the lady that introduced me to it. (She has an ucler so she can’t have it for at least 6 months)
No I bought it about 2 weeks ago. Wow, I don’t think could wait 6 months but that was super nice of you to pick some up.
Wow this is AWESOME! If you are looking for accuracy this is it. I am originally from Gujrat, India and was a little skeptical since I had tasted the real thing. I just couldn’t believe how this tastes exactly what chai in the Gujrat region of India should taste like. I love it and the fact that it is easy is the best. I am glad I finally bought this as it will be a staple. I will have my parents try it next and if I get their approval I know this is the real deal. As for me a true winner!
I used half milk and half water in my preparation.
This was super tasty today! Teaspoon Tipu’s Instant Chai + Hot Water + Teaspoon Brown Sugar + 1/2 mug of milk = easy breezy delicious treat! I am in super cleaning and cooking mode today!
This reminds me to put brown sugar on my grocery list. I’ve also found that boiling water makes it less gritty and there’s no need to heat the milk since the water is so hot. LOVE this stuff!
Its great! I made some more this morning since I didn’t have much time before going to work. So easy to shake and sip too.
Too spicy. I think I need to use less next time… maybe 1/2 tsp or 1/4 tsp? I did as directed. I felt like my mouth was stuffed with a lot of powdered nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, and cloves.
Sorry, not really. I like a “kick you in the mouth” chai lol. The only thing I could suggest is use all milk and sweeten it.
The way I like it is one LEVEL MEASURING teaspoon in 8 ounces boiling water, add a nice slosh of milk or soymilk (half and half if I have it) and a TBSP of sugar or honey. It is spicy but lovely!
Peppery and convenient. Needs milk (dairy or non) of some sort, though, as it is too intense to drink on its own. Good for cold days.
I actually like this sans milk as well (great in drip coffee if you’re a coffee drinker)- but then again I drink things I need to sign a waiver for:) I’m getting low, but I think I may have some today between furnace runs.
I received a batch of their decaf instant. Agreed, best with milk. But it is the best quickie chai I’ve come across.
Geoffrey, you mean the concentrate? I’m under the understanding that this is the entry for the powdered form of the instant. I use the terms concentrate and instant to mean different things when refering to chai, but that’s just me.
I can’t believe it’s cold enough to drink apple cider today… it’s been 90 the past 3 days. 1tsp chai in 1 cup hot Mott’s Medley’s Apple and Carrot Juice Blend. The sweetness and flavor of the juice surprisingly hold up well. Next time I’ll add some caramel creamer. Very good and healthy. :)
Ok, this is amazing. The weather here has been a bit bi-polar. 60 yesterday and 90 today. Same thing predicted for Thurs/Fri: 67 Thurs and 97 on Fri. The A/C isn’t on yet and while it isn’t unbearable, I wanted to satisfy my chocolate craving in a cold format vs. hot. May I present my Iced Mexican Chocolate Chai:
1 cup ice
1 cup cold milk
1 TB chocolate creamer
2 tsp chai
2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
2 pinches crushed red pepper
Blend til smooth
Extremely rich and decadent and smooth and cold and hot and yummy (haha yeah I know that’s a lot of “ands”)… Next time I think I’m going to add caramel ice cream topping and dissolve 2 packets of instant coffee in to the water I make the ice out of.
Preparation
Decided to be brave: 2 pinches of crushed red pepper steeped in 8oz boiling water for 3 min, reboil the water, add 2tsp chai, 2tsp cocoa powder, 2 TB caramel coffee creamer, and 8oz fat free milk. WOW. Definitely even more of a kick w/ the red pepper. So good though. Gotta get some decaf instant coffee to add to this.
Finally slept great… but I was awake at 6:30. Caffeine will help me from crashing later. Mom left me about cup and a half of coffee this morning so I used the last half of a cup or so to make chai w/ milk added to make it a full cup. Normally just “dumping” really annoys me, but this turned out good.
Was sooo tired last night I actually fell asleep at 9. Then woke up when breaking news started and forced myself to go to bed at 11:30. Really should have been up at 7:30, but I slept til 8:30. Having coffee w/ a tsp of chai and a tsp of cocoa powder to try to wake me up.
