This is my morning cup, surprised I haven’t reviewed this before! I picked this up on our trip to the island a year ago. It’s a nice rooibos with a good sweet flavor from the vanilla, a nice linen mouthfeel and slight flavor from the lavender, and a good rooibos base, not too scratchy! The orange isn’t really present, maybe a mild tang in the aftertaste. For a ref rooibos, this is quite enjoyable. Nice warming and richer cup today as I continue my caffeine hiatus.
I am finishing off this awesome tea at work today. I will definitely, 100% be ordering more of this, and probably in March. My nose is going crazy today, and I even had an allergy pill yesterday..I also finally asked if the HVAC system can be checked at my work as I have been so sick with my asthma at work that something must be wrong. I suspect mold, as I also have a mold allergy, and haven’t had asthma symptoms prior to last summer in about 15 years. Hopefully they find something and can fix it! In the meantime, I will continue taking allergy pills about every 2nd day and drinking teas such as this, caffeine free and good for allergies. And it tastes awesome! Until we meet again, my friend. Awe no, I hope they’ll be able to fix the problem so you won’t have to suffer so much. And thank you for verifying that you have a mold allergy. When I went to the doctor last year because my allergies were really bad from living in a moldy basement, he basically just scoffed at me and said that mold allergies don’t exist. And a former landlord in the basement suite before that also scoffed at me and said that you can’t be allergic to mold. What the hell is wrong with people?
I actually only found out I had a mold allergy from my allergy test a few years ago, I can’t remember what strain it is, or if it is specified, but it definitely said one on there. Yeah allergies/asthma is a tricky thing..not many people understand them unless they have to cope with it themselves lol. My mold allergies are the worst in the spring from the snow mold blarg. I hope they at least look into it and if all is good, then I can figure out what else could be the trigger.
What kind of allergy test did you get? By that I mean, from a physician or a more homeopathic one? Because there are different methods. I should do the same but I’m not sure what’s out there.
The latest one I had was at an allergy clinic, I was referred there by my doctor, they did the skin dot test, I believe the method was oils placed on the skin and then after about 10 mins the hive size was measured. I can’t remember if they pricked the place that they put the oil too, but it definitely seemed accurate (peanut allergy of 7/10, with 10 being most deadly, and I do have quite a severe peanut allergy). I can’t remember the reading on my mold one either, I believe it was between 2 and 5 but not sure on the number. It was tough to actually get a test though, it sounds like the older you get the less common it is to get a test done…kind of annoying, since I wanted to know if I had outgrown my peanut allergy when I went haha.
When I was little I had the one where they scratch your back with the allergens, that one apparently was freaky lol. My mom also has had the injection type one and it also seemed accurate, but I couldn’t handle that many needles lol. Hopefully you can get a referral if you want to get a test done!
I will definitely have to order more of this, I am nearing the end of my first bag from Nov and it is my go-to herbal for before bed and allergies at the same time. Or just allergies! I really want to try blending my own of this with my big bag of nettles, so I might try that :) awesome tea! Upping rating – see previous notes :)
And time to finally review another Teafarm tea I picked up on my trip! This one sounded very interesting to me, a herbal chai without rooibos, instead, the base is nettle leaves! Definitely couldn’t pass this one up :)
The dry smell is quite chai like, with the cardamom, ginger, cinnamon and peppercorns bringing a spicy scent, and the nettle and lemon components bringing a herbiness. I steeped for around 2-3 mins, not sure of the parameters so I just guess haha. The brewed liquor is very herbal smelling with an afterscent of pepper. Yum! Should help my allergies too!
As for the flavor, this is a very interesting combo! It definitely has chai flavors from all the spices, with cardamom and the peppercorns ruling, but the nettle keeps its herbal flavor and really makes this into a unique, not-your-usual chai tea. I think the lemon verbena and peel add a refreshing note to the nettle, it’s not drying from the spices either.
Overall, a super unique tea I am very pleased to have bought! Unfortunately I didn’t see this one online – if this continues to please me, I will probably have to look into emailing them to see if I can order more :) happy I picked this one up!

Yes this is a very different take on chai :) and @Fjellrev, do it! They have quite a few interesting blends that I wanted to buy, but needed to be reasonable lol
Wow, I haven’t logged this tea in 2 years haha. I still have a tiny bit left in my bag from back then that I’m trying to finish off, however the flavor is still pretty decent! Made it today with milk and sugar for a treat after all the cleaning I’ve been doing today lol. The weather says winter, but my brain is kicking into ‘spring cleaning’ mode, so that’s what the day has consisted of. So a tea and truffle popcorn break is where I’m at now. This tea takes milk and sugar well, and it’s quite good on this blustery snowy day we are having.
Also, sorry for not posting on here much anymore. I do post on IG relatively often, but my social media activity has steadily been decreasing. I still peruse the forums, read up on what’s new, and am lusting after some teaware haha, but just not as active as I used to be on here. I still do exist! :D see previous notes on this tea!
I’m back from vacation!! It’s been so long Steepster haha..I did read a few notes and checked out the Black Friday hubbub a few times but didn’t feel like posting any notes while there. Let’s just say…I bought a LOT of tea haha. There are quite a few unique little shops out on the Island, and I didn’t even get to them all!
This shop was a purely random chance find lol, we had gone out to a birds-of-prey sanctuary and were trying to get back to the main highway, so the GPS sent us down this random road. Lo and behold…there is a tea shop there! In the middle of the Cowichan Valley! And what a place!!! The owner immediately provided us a taste of tea when we went in the rustic little shop, a delicious russian caravan with lavender! So good! It was brewed in a beautiful clay pot that the lady that also works there had made, she does pottery and helps with the tea. They are also growing their own tea right there and said it will be ready for selling in small quantities next year! Woot!
So this amazing little tea shop has tons of teas! I smelled so many and the guy really knows his stuff, it was great. I ended up getting this one and 2 others for myself, and the bf got 3 for himself too. I actually was torn between this tea, the EG lavender and their house blend called Persia – a blend of darjeeling, ceylon, EG and lavender. They all smelled delicious, but this one won out – it has such a bright lemony citrus scent, no soap just pure citrus goodness! They apparently use real Bergamot oil, no synthetic or artificial stuff.
As for the flavor, this is a great EG! The citrusy bergamot is so bright, it almost tastes like a lemon black tea rather than an EG! It’s a unique one, that is for sure, and it is quite drinkable in my opinion. I had it quite a few mornings on our trip, and am having it at work this morning in a poor attempt to wake up and focus haha. Post vacation blahs…yeah, I’m not all here yet. Hopefully I get back into focus as I have a meeting this afternoon lol.
Anyways, overall this is a pretty good EG tea. I am so happy I found this little shop and can’t wait to try the others I got from there too! Check them out online too :)
Flavors: Citrus, Lemon
I met the owner at a farmers market in Nanaimo a few years ago! Too cool :) Glad he’s doing well. Thats pretty exciting he will be ready to sell small batches next year. When I met him, he said it would be about 2 years until production. What a small world.
Haha that is a small world! Yes it will be very limited probably only in store too I imagine but still neat that there is some tea growing in Canada! He was very enthusiastic and helpful with tea selections, next time I’m out there I will definitely head back to pick up some more varieties :)
Growing their own tea?! That is so cool. I want to do that.
Also, I just want to remark that I thought Verdant’s Earl Grey also tasted rather towards lemony – I wonder if real, good bergamot has that lemony essence? I can’t say I’ve tasted lemon in most other EGs I’ve had, but who knows what they used to flavour the tea.
I think they might be the only company in Canada so far that is actually growing their own Camellia Sinensis, but I could be wrong. It’s pretty cool anyways :D
I still have to try Verdant’s EG! Was going to order it on BF but I really have too much tea, especially EGs now, that I can’t justify it yet. I haven’t tasted lemon in many other Earl Greys either, my favorite by A&D is much different too, it’s more of a malty, robust type of EG, not lemon and citrus. It’s interesting how there can be so much variation among them, especially my two favorites now! It could definitely be a trait of the bergamot they used though. Or maybe the base tea brings out different flavors from the bergamot? Regardless, tis good! :D
I only picked up the 7g size, since I clearly also don’t need more tea. I haven’t tried too many straight EGs, mostly EG creams, but the lemon note really stood out this time. Interesting that something so seemingly basic can be so varied.
My husband and I shared a pot of this at the Teafarm (which, by the way, is a fantastic spot to sit and have a cuppa). I knew after the first sip that I would walk away with a 200g tin of it. Persia is a tea with some depth. The mixture of the different blacks lends complexity and the bergamot and lavender add fresh floral and fruity notes. I can’t wait to see how it pairs with milk and/or honey.
Preparation
I tried this last night. It’s a loose tea, and I may have added too much (2 heaps teaspoons to 2 cups water), and also brewed too long. The white tea was a bit strong/bitter – will add less tea and steep for less time next time. Definitely very lavender – wow! I wonder if adding a few dried mint leaves would mellow out the lavender just a touch. Nice though :-)
Preparation
I love mint (for tea) and fennel, and enjoy a good black tea. I get mint mostly, but that’s okay. I brewed about 1 1/2 heaping teaspoons of the loose tea in 2 cups of water, for about 6 minutes. I really like it – the black tea isn’t as noticable, but then, that’s good if I want a herbal-tasting tea with the “wake-up!” perk of a black tea. Very happy with this blend. Plus, it’s a local tea company, and I love supporting local :-)

When I saw this booth at the Sidney Nightmarket, I thought it was just another artisan tea blender taking advantage of tea’s growing popularity. Colour me surprised when I discovered that apparently we grow tea on Vancouver Island!
Being born in the year of the boar, and having a soft spot for all things vanilla, I settled on this tea in their selection to see if it was any good.
The tea brewed is darker than most standard green teas, but the first sip tastes like lovely toasty greens in the Japanese style. It has a smooth finish thanks to the vanilla, which allays some of the bitterness I find Japanese greens can have. All in all, a relaxing cup.
