Still intense. I quite like it though… the longer I steep it the more, um, pungent it gets. Sort of plastic-y thick, with a waxy feel to it. Weird stuff comes out of my pores and body when I drink this, in a good way.

Flavors: Grass, Herbaceous, Thick

Boiling 8 min or more 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

Whoa. This is one intense tea. There’s a warning on the bottle saying this is a very effective tea, and that if you want something gentler, try another (I think the kidney blend).

Um, yeah. It works. It’s definitely cleansing. I recommend not eating much before/after having it…

Preparation
Boiling 8 min or more 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

This sounds kind of scary – blood cleansing? Ominous, even.

I imagine that this tea likes to go on murderous rages, metaphorically-speaking.

Well, I don’t drink this for the taste, yet, it surprises me every time when I grab for it. A bit sweet and orange-like, it’s pleasant. And yes, if I’ve overeaten or am feeling… uh… yeah… it works like a charm.

Unsure why I haven’t reviewed this yet – grabbed another small baggie of it the other day. This sounds like I’m buying drugs — well, this is Vancouver — but really, it’s one of those super-hippie leftover vegetarian restaurants/grocery store, where you can buy any amount of handmade herbal teas in the very back. Yes, that kind of place!

This is a surprisingly sweet tea, even with the maté in it. I kinda, sorta like it. Of all the herbals I’ve grabbed from Sweet Cherubim, this is by far the best tasting. Does it work? Too soon to tell… but it sure works as a diruetic.

Flavors: Roasted, Sweet

Boiling 8 min or more 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

LOL @ the Vancouver jab :P

OMGsrsly

Mookit, I think I finally have more medical marijuana places near my apartment than massage parlours. :D

Well it’s like weeds: police raid one, three more open.
Haha… weeds… I didn’t even intend that pun.

drank Root Beer by Sweet Cherubim

A sample from Miss B! Looking at the ingredients in this one, I wasn’t really expecting it to taste of root beer, per se. It kind of does, though! I used 1 tsp of leaf for my cup, and gave it approximately 4 minutes in boiling water. The scent is almost right – sweet and creamy, with an underlying almost medicinal tang, but the initial sip is heavily “herbal”. It seems to take a moment for the different flavours to pull together, and initially the predominant notes are aniseed, star anise and liquorice root. Somehow, they all eventually coalesce to create a pretty convincing “root beer” effect, although it has to be said mostly in the aftertaste. I’m particularly enjoying the deep, dark molasses-like flavour in combination with black liquorice, and the tiny hit of vanilla that this one presents. Not my favourite herbal, but well worth a try!

So… there’s fennel seeds, cinnamon, star anise, LOADS of licorice root, and some weird leaves and sticks I can’t identify by sight. There’s probably more in this tea, but I can’t tell without a microscope for sorting.

This would be really good without the intense, terrible, lingering sweetness from the licorice root. Oh geez that stuff is terrible. :/

MissB, thanks so much for sharing this tea and alerting me to the fact that Sweet Cherubim has some teas. :) I don’t think I’ll be getting this one again.

I ran out, and eventually bought $4.32 more of it, which works out to about 100g. Score! Made it iced today, and while I like it better hot, it’s still damn tasty tea. Sweet anise today mostly, with some hints of sasparilla.

Flavors: Anise, Root Beer, Smooth

Preparation

I definitely need to grab more of this soon, and get the full ingredient list. This tea solely got me through the night last night – it was comforting and soothing with the dry, scratchy, raw throat, and more so than any other tea I had last night.

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 8 min or more 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

One of the few handblended teas that Sweet Cherubim makes that has zero ingredients listed. Having said that, I can see large pieces of star anise and fennel everywhere… the rest could be almost anything. It tastes surprisingly like root beer, and smells even more so – I’m assuming there’s sasparilla root in it. I love this tea!

I’ve never heard of that company but Tealux makes a rootbeer tasting tea called Strawberry Sassafras (strange name). It’s a combo of green & white tea with other ingredients too. I’ve really enjoyed it but I know root beer teas are not for everyone.

Suziqzer

That reminds me.. I need to try bit of rootbeer samples I was saving as cold steeps for my son :).

Ubacat.. Strawberry sassafras sounds like an interesting combo

MissB

Oh, it’s just a health food store that sells teas, herbals and spices in big jars you scoop out yourself. The blends come from (interestingly) a book written many years back by a friend of mine.

Rootbeer tea is fun! Because, really, that’s hot root beer started out…

MissB

*how root beer, silly me.

OMGsrsly

I hadn’t even thought to check Sweet Cherubim for tea. I tend to prefer Gaia Garden for herb stuff. Planning a trip now!

MissB

Not sure if I’d make a trip out of it – they mostly have boxed teas (Numi, etc.) and then their teas in the spice area… maybe 7-10, total? I grabbed the ones that interested me: Root Beer, Female, Allergy. They used to have one called Weight Loss that seems to have been discontinued, it was fantastic for stomach/bloating stuff. A few others for kids and sleep, one for aging/general health, and one for men.

I just love that I can grab as much (or little) as I want… including all the spices/herbs. Where’s Gaia Garden?

OMGsrsly

Apparently Broadway and Trafalger now! When I used to work on Granville Island they had a location there and I was always buying stuff to try. I haven’t been for ages, though. I thought they were near the Naam, and they are, but not quite how I remembered.

OMGsrsly

I LOVED the immofort, and they made me 100g with no peppermint at one time. You used to be able to buy any amount you wanted, but I’m not sure if you can anymore. At least, you can’t online.
