without a doubt one off my all time favorite black tea’s, this 50gram bag got opened in the same time with 3 other blacks and a few white, oolongs and its getting empty fast!

Drinking 4cups a day over the last week and i’m totally liking the fresh and vibrant light taste off this tea. its more like drinking a good oolong instead off a black tea!

Nilgiri Frost, its still freezing outside here in Belgium so by name the tea is ideal!

This tea is a very fresh smelling black tea but the tea leafs in dry form are green and black mixed. The smell is more grass like then you would expect from the usually malty smelling black tea’s. So i was excited to try it out!

Brewing my first cup with a teaspoon off leaf, for about 3min. The result is a bright amber light brown liquor. It tastes like no other black tea i tryed before! To me its a very light tea thats in taste is more like a floral heavy roast oolong. Very surprising to get a black tea thats so different then most others! I’m loving every sip off it especially because its overall not to expensive i paid a bit less then 10€ for a 50gram bag.

So if you want to try a fresh and a bit different black tea make sure to check this one out!

also one sidenote: just noticed that jing stocks a niligiri black without the green leaves in it, i have to try that one in the future to!

Oolong, Oolong the song of my life
Will it be bitter or will it be nice?
Oolong, Oolong will you be true?
Please be tasty because I love you.

Alright enough randomness for the time being. Lets get down to the review.

The raw tea consists of small loosely rolled leaves that are dark and light green in colour. They smell very sweet and vegetal but unusual in a way … not good or bad just … well different.

Two teaspoons worth are placed into my gongfu with just below boiling water poured over the top and left to steep for 3 minutes. This is as the instructions state on the package.

Once steeped the tea soup creates a yellow gold colour with a sweet pea almost peony like scent.

Funnily enough it tastes as it smelt raw … very hard to put my finger on it. It is sweet, vegetal, a little floral but it’s something I cannot describe exactly. Is it turnip like? Swede? Butternut? Like I said it’s hard to define but it’s not your average Oolong vegetal taste that’s for sure.

The sweetness advances with a touch of the roasted vegetables and it smooths itself out quickly and before you know it the flavour has gone. Maybe that means I can add misty to it’s description. The more I drink the more I like it and start to taste it’s strength a little better.

Very delicious.

Took me ages to really fall in love with this tea, but now it seems i can’t resist of having a sheng puerth in my cupboard. I’m probably going to buy this again soon but the chance is big i’m going to try other sheng’s first. So far for the heads up off this tea!

Had an other off these puerth mini cakes last evening. How surprised i was last time i’m getting more and more convinced this tea has a good taste but is not really my thing. I’m liking the 2nd and 3th cup most but and yes there is a but i’m missing the strong earth tastes from the cooked mini tuo’s! I’m not sure if i order this again even though i’m liking the taste, i’m not loving it… next time i order raw puerth it will be a sample first before i buy a 50gram bag!

My second cup is far more golden in color and it smells alot more smokey (almost like a lapsang). Now that i’m a bit used to the idea that 2 kinds off puerth are that different in taste i’m more openminded about the taste…

i really did not expect that 2 kinds off puerth would be that different its like comparing a white tea with a black tea and thinking you get the same tastes.

Ok but to the point off taste now, its a lot stronger now the leaves are more loose i’m liking it more then my first cup! I can taste more smoke, and somehow the peach/apricot notes are getting true to my tasting buds!

I feel like this tea is playing with me, first surprising me with color, taste and all now even the first and second cup are way different and more to the point! Next time i’m going for a longer first discard infusion so that my first real cup is stronger!

This is my first Raw mini tuo puerth so i’m very curious! Ordered this one a whole while ago so its time for a bit off experimenting on this snowy sunday evening!

I had a cooked mini tuo before from jing, and that one came out a very dark colored infusion. So i expected a same kind off color from this one! Boy was i wrong, the color off the infussion is pale, very pale almost like silver needles but a bit more green/yellow… i totally didn’t expect this! I was a bit shocked so i when’t back to the jing site to check out the brewing instructions, and i didn’t do anything wrong luckily!

Infused for 60 seconds with a first cleaning infusion off 5sec that i did discard. The tea almost as no smell to it, thats also totally different from the cooked tuo’s…

time for my first cup tasting, while very hot it tastes sweet maybe a little a tiny little bit smokey. Didn’t expect a puerth to taste sweet so thats a nice surprise, other reviews say it should taste fruity, i’m not so sure about that but i like the taste. Its way different then i had expected but i guess thats my lesson in raw puerth vs cooked puerth!

going to update this note later this evening because i should be able to brew up to 5 or 7cups off this tea

Another Jing sample that has been left unsteeped in my cupboard for way too long.

The tea whilst raw consists of thinly rolled green leaves that have a sweet and vegetal aroma. Very similar to some green teas I have had before with the same sweet pea affair.

Once steeped the tea is extremely pale yellow (so much so it takes a keen eye to detect any colour change at all). The scent is still vegetal and sweet, almost fruity.

The flavour is very gentle and sweet with a natural green flavour. It’s also vegetal tasting similar to peas or fresh spinach. There is a hint of flowers along the lines of peony.

It actually reminds me very much of Bu Luo Chun. http://steepster.com/teas/dragon-tea-house/16747-bi-luo-chun

While it’s a nice tea it’s just not unique and special for me so I don’t think I would re order it.

drank Uji Sencha Kyoto by Jing Tea
113 tasting notes

After drinking this last night with to many leaf or to long a steep, i had to try it again this morning! Using a bit less leaf and dropped the infusion time with 30sec. The result is a cup i like far more then first. My first time infusing this i noticed a very sharp taste, thats more rounded and grassy now… better in my opinion :) So i’m upping the score a little bit!

Where do i start with this one… opening the sample i received from jing i notice grass, yes grass! If i didn’t read what was on the package i really would think its fresh cut green grass!

I took a teaspoon off this mysterious grass thats called sencha and brewed it for 3min with 70°c temp. like the instructions on my bag where.

The wet leafs look well seaweed like some other greens when they are wet! The color off the brew is a mild green that looks tasty!

The taste is actually pretty sharp to the tongue, maybe i used a bit mutch leafs, or brewed it a bit too long. I’m not really sure why but i tought it would be softer in taste because i had genmaicha before… Didn’t expect that without the rice this tea is sharp and pretty strong for a green one!

I’m liking the taste but going to lower my amount off leaf a bit with the next time i make it. Then i’m sure that i can compare it with this brew…

Probably going to order this again in the future but its more a tea for in the spring, or on a hot summer day in my opinion, but couldn’t let this sample sit in my cupboard for that long! That would have been a shame!

edit: the other review mentions this is a japanese breakfast tea, have to say i notice a bit after my first cup that it gets me more alive and awake then i should this late in the evening lol! Next time gonna check steepster before i brew a new tea!

Sipping from this big red robe and joying it alot today, more then last time! I’m on a oolong day today!

keeping it short because i reviewed it a while ago, long story short a great tea!

important edit: can’t seem to find about how to change this but i had the regular big red robe and note the supreme!

I once had this tea before but wasn’t into brewing oolongs back then, so i didn’t know that i didn’t used enough leaves. I like it back then but with using the correct way off brewing and a large amount off leaves this tea is fun!

The dry leaves are dark brown and pretty large with a funny smell, can’t really tell what the smell is!

But it taste wonderfull and lasts for me atleast 3 to 4cups western style brewing… i really really need to buy a gaiwan any time soon! I’m tasting dark chocolat with a long after taste off something… i’m not really sure if i’m tasting nuts or fruits like in the discription but its a great tea :)

Brewed it with a 2 teaspoons off leaf and for 3min with boiling water, second cup 4min… and so on. Have to say, the chocolat taste fades with each cup and is replaced with fruit and or nutty taste :)

A nice tea for if u want something different then the usually greens and blacks!

Where do we start… lets see i did order this tea a while ago just because i liked the name Phoenix Honey Orchid, it sounded wonderful but does it keep up to its keep up in taste?

I had a pretty hard time figuring out the amount off leaf i needed to use, first 3 times i tryed to brew i had not enough leaf, then to many. I almost gave up in trying to figure it out. Needles to say the taste with not enough leaf was a let down, and when i had to many well it was not really bitter but it tasted not like i expected or hoped it to taste.

Now that i got it right for my taste buds i’m kind off surprised! It tastes very bright and fruity, maybe citrus or light tropical fruit. I’m not pretty sure about what i’m tasting but i’m loving it. This tea grows on me, i had alot off trouble figuring out what and how, maybe i got it wrong in the first place because the leafs are so long and tippy that it looks like u got to many leafs in there, the pot is pretty filled with dry leafs now :) it looks funny because most off the time i drink rolled up tea’s or small black’s :)

back to the brewing i’m on my 4th cup now, still getting a very very nice flavour from these leafs, its almost feeling like a waste that i wasted allot off this expensive tea with just trying and trying… but it feels good to finally have it the way i like and love it!

o and the collor is bright golden orange, it looks amazing in my glass teacup!

This tea was recommended by darky after seeing my review for Rose Petal Black by The Tao of Tea. I have been on a Keemun binge recently and unfortunately the Rose Petal Black by The Tao of Tea did not please me. I ordered this brand with a few other samples to try and they arrived this morning.

Upon opening the packet I was delighted to smell the familiar thick, earthy tang of Keemun whilst investigating the whole rose flowers of pink and yellow that were embedded within. It was enough to make my mouth water.

Brewed for 3 minutes and just under boiling as advised.

The smell once steeped was heavily malty yet sweet and floral. Flavour wise this had sweet and sour elements but much more palatable that I was expecting, it was a rather smooth and well balanced blend. The Keemun is of a good quality by itself and I was happy with the condition of the roses.

This was so nice that I had to have a second cup straight after my first cup and whilst contemplating my third cup I realised it was time for me to finish work. If a tea can put work out of my mind then that shows it’s yummy.

So far this is the nicest rose and Keemun blend I have tried, though I do have some more brands to try at some point.

Nice that u already received it and glad u like my recommendation! Witch other samples did you order? i’m pretty curious :)

KittyLovesTea

I also got the Huo Shan Yellow Buds, Hojicha and Yellow Gold. I have been buying too much tea recently so I could only afford a small order but If the other tea’s are as good as the Keemun and Whole Rose then I shall order from them again. :)

darky

you will be in for a surprise, i liked all off there these so far! Waiting for your huo shan review! wanted to try those in near future aswel and probably hojicha to. The yellow gold, i can say is very jummy and citrussy i brewed those western style and can get about 4 to 5 cups out off it :) drank about 200grams of it over the last year i think but recently switched to try other oolongs

darky

oh btw i usualy don’t buy 10gram samples its a bit risky but i usualy go over directly to 50gram bags. Finding 10gram a bit less to experiment with the tea

One off my all time favorite green’s, also the first loose green tea that i tryed, maybe thats why i like the simple fresh & clean taste so mutch! brewed this one for 3min, and it gives a nice bright almost fluo green color! The tealeaves itself are when they are dry smelling a bit grassy, when they are brewed the leaves look a bit like seaweed!

U can easily get a second and even a third brew from the same leaves if u take a nice heaped teaspoon full off it :)

Like i said before a simple bright in taste green tea thats perfect for daily use when your not in the mooth for flavored greens like jasmin or mint!

drank JING Chai by Jing Tea
113 tasting notes

I started drinking loose leave tea pretty mutch about a year or 2 ago, but never had a chai so i tought why not order one! Sinds most off my orders come from jing because i havent had a tea that i did not like from them it was obvious that i order my chai there!

Upon opening the package i notice a very nice smell, it reminded me off cinnamon cooked peers that my mom used to make every now and then.

I used one teaspoon of leaves and brewed my first cup for about 3min. When i tryed tasting it at first i was a bit disapointed, but that was only because i couldnt wait to let it cool down more. Once it was cooled down enough i start tasting the ginger and especialy alot off cinemon! Maybe a little bit to mutch cinnamon but i didn’t mind it because i like that spice alot.

Overall the tea is very good u can actualy taste the ceylon tea under the spicy flavors so my final verdict is good, i’m sure i’m gonna order it again anytime soon before the winter ends! The tea is not to strong in spices and it still gives a good warming feel that i anticipated for this winter like tea (yes the first day its freezing in Belgium and i need a warming drink lol)

o before i forget i made a second cup with the same leaves and steeped it for 5min, the ginger became alot more present while the ceylon base was less present, but it was still very yummy!

Right here we go my second tasting note!

I had keemun gong fu before and also yunnan gold. This Russian caravan is a blend off both so i was curious about it when i placed my order.

Having just opent up the package i see small keemun leaves mixed with the yellow/bright brown colored yunnan gold buds…

Like with all my jing black tea’s i’m going with 3min for the first infusion and 5min for my second with near boiling water. This said, it tastes basicly exactly what the discription on the website was. Its sweet it taste and very soft in the mouth, a bit spicy aswel when its cooled down a bit more… i like this blend more then i like keemun gong fu on its own! You can realy taste the sweetness from the yunnan gold in the mix!

Needed a very strong cup this afternoon so i took this assam… i needed a strong cup because off the very sad news i received just a few hours ago my grandfather died at the age off 90 years old. Don’t know why i’m making a tasting note for this tea with all this sad news i received but i guess i needed to type away my sadness a bit… thinking that i’m still a bit shocked even tough we knew it could happen because he was going up and down a lot last couple days/weeks…

anyway typing this down just took away my thoughts for a few moments!

drank Lemon Verbena by Jing Tea
113 tasting notes

Not a tea to review in the real ‘tea’ like way but a herbal for a change. Lemon Verbena, my 50gram ziplock bag from jingtea is almost about to explode when u see the package standing between the other tea… i’m guessing these leaves are just so light that u need a so many off them. Anyhow when opening the pack i’m greeted by a great lemonade like smell. The name Lemon in lemon verbena is there for a reason!

The dry leaf is very light and breakable like i tought it would be, so i’m taking alot off them to infuse in my teapot. Brewing these for 3min with boiling water gives a very fresh smelling and mint like in color brew. According to the website your able to do one infusion from these leaf’s, well i did a second one and brewed it double the time off my first infusion and it came out almost just as good in taste!

Speaking off taste, when its cooled down enough it tastes very lemon like with a smooth aftertaste in the mouth, very refreshing in this hot weather!

in my quest off finding a tea to drink before going to bed i usualy drank twinnings chamomile teabag, but when i start drinking loose leave tea’s and herbals i just had to try this organic chamomile flowers. The smell off the herbs is absolutly intense and brew a bright golden color! Usualy 3min is a bit short for my taste so i go for a 5min brew, and a second cup straight after with brew time close to 8min. It taste just like it smelled so thats a very good thing, but what i like most from this herbal is the fact that it works for me like taking a sleeping pill! when i drink 2 cups off these flowers i realy need to get in my bed because i’m getting so relaxed that the only thing i can think off is sleeping! So if your looking for something to drink to get you a good night sleep, don’t look any further!

Tis is a beautiful mix off elderberry’s, blackberry, hibiscus and rose hip. The smell coming out the ziplock bag is just heavenly! Fruit Fruit and even more Fruit!

I’m making a cup with one teaspoon full off these big ingredients, whole berry’s and big pieces off all the other things! Letting it brew for 3min and the color turns really wine red, if some one see’s this brew he would think your drinking wine!

It tastes just as great then it smells so i really like this and you cannot compare it in any way with some bagged berry/hibiscus infusions!

I even brewed a second infusion, tasting a bit less then the original brew but with a longer steep 6min u can get a very great tasting cup out off it!
