drank Happy Zombie Tea by Design a Tea

Design a Tea threw in this sample with my order, which was very kind! The main flavor is orange. I also get the rooibos and maybe a touch of cinnamon. Definitely tastes much better at room temperature. Hot, the rooibos isn’t great. I guess I’ve tried all my teas from them now! My verdict…they’re fun for sure. I’m not sure I’d make another order just because the quality doesn’t quite match the cost. But it was really fun to try. And also I’ve only tried their rooibos. Maybe their actual teas are super good.

drank Zabaglione Rooibos by Design a Tea

This is probably the best tea I ordered from Design a Tea. I wish I had more than one bag! The strawberry flavor is light and pleasant, and the rooibos is of a nice quality as well! It even tastes a little creamy. A really great dessert tea.

This is definitely the best tea I’ve tried from Design a Tea. The primary flavor is lavender. The rooibos is supposed to be cherry flavored, but I don’t taste that at all. What I taste is delicious lavender, which I love, but I’m unlikely to pay this much again when I could just buy food grade lavender in bulk. I wish this tea had more complexity, but it’s not bad. It makes two very lavender-heavy steeps.

drank Pumpkin Caramel by Design a Tea
2519 tasting notes

I could mostly only taste the rooibos in this one. I don’t know why the flavors aren’t showing up very well in the latest few I’ve tried from Design a Tea. The rooibos they’re using has more of the qualities that people don’t like in a rooibos. Just woody and not as sweet and full. In my opinion, they need to change rooibos suppliers and make the flavoring stronger.

drank Maple Rooibos by Design a Tea
2519 tasting notes

I left my mug at home, so I had to drink this one out of a styrofoam cup at the office, which doesn’t help the taste. The rooibos is woodier than is pleasant. Maybe I can blame that on the fact that the water doesn’t get hot enough to boil at the office. The maple definitely isn’t strong enough. I wouldn’t even know it’s there if I weren’t looking for it.

gmathis

Not sure which is worse … foam cups, or having to heat water in a shared Keurig!

AJRimmer

I know! Office brewing never does my tea justice.

gmathis

I have some travel upcoming … the only way I know to combat hotel and conference room tea water is to take heavy duty flavors … cinnamon, strong mint, etc.

gmathis

(I have a little Hot Shot water heater in my own office, which I can patrol. That helps, but work tea is still non-optimal.)

I’m not detecting any banana in this. It is pleasantly nutty though. The nuttiness goes well with the rooibos. It’s quite a pleasant blend, just not exactly as described. It’s a shame I only have the one bag of this because I would definitely drink this regularly.

drank Amaretto Rooibos by Design a Tea
2519 tasting notes

I saw that Design a Tea was giving away samples, so I thought I might as well design some teas. To absolutely no one’s surprise, I had to choose the amaretto flavoring on a rooibos base. I’m happy to say that it’s pretty tasty. Definitely not the best I’ve had, but that’s probably because this rooibos isn’t quite as tasty as the rooibos from other brands. It’s a pleasant amaretto flavor, though. Basically exactly what you’d imagine. I put some in the fridge to try the next day, and it was so rich with a lingering flavor. I look forward to trying my other samples!

I’m not usually a fan of black tea, and the first time I fixed this I overbrewed it, which didn’t help.

However, with a lower temperature and shorter steep time, this is a truly beautiful tea. The aroma is pure tea leaf, and the flavor is mild, smooth, and pure. Best of all, it has no harsh aftertaste.

A very good, generally mild green tea with a medium yellow color. It has just enough caffeine to get me moving without making me jittery

My go-to tea for almost any occasion. Slightly sweeter than rooibos and absolutely impossible to overbrew. I’ve had it from other brands before, but the honeybush I get from Design a Tea has a clearer taste than others.

I’ve never been a huge fan of iced tea because it’s usually either strong and bitter (over brewed) or insanely sweetened.

Design a Tea’s Ice Wine is the perfect tea, at least if made at home. It’s sweet enough from the flavorings to suit a sweet tea drinker, but not cloying enough to bother someone who prefers unsweetened.

Almost out of this. I will need to make another order soon. What is everyone’s favourite blend they have tried from design-a-tea?

I made my own blend using
Rooibos base
Add linden leaf herb
Add flavours vanilla, zabaglione

It might be one of the best rooibos tisanes I have ever had. I’m getting a lot of custard/thick cream notes, sweet rooibos, intense vanilla. There is so much vanilla custard that I’m going to be ordering more soon. If you have been hesitant on trying something from design-a-tea, order this one. With the sugary flavours it is almost like creme brulee with carmalized sugar.

Flavors: Brown Sugar, Cream, Custard, Rooibos, Sugar, Thick, Vanilla

This sounds awesome! I ordered from Design-a-Tea a while back and remember the teas came out quite nicely

I added sapsaparilla and linden flower leaf to mine, so I guess that could have contributed. I also added clove, however there is no clove at all in the looseleaf, so I’m not sure about that one. I noticed in the ingredients they add almond pieces when you select vanilla flavouring, so I guess there is a bit of nutty almond in there as well.

Fascinating!

I wonder how this would turn out on a black base.

Arby

I suspect on a black base it would be delicious.

This is the last of my sampler package from design-a-tea (I did purchase a bag of zabaglione vanilla rooibos as well). The blueberry and nutmeg rooibos ended up being more like blueberry/generic fruity rooibos with no nutmeg at all. I was pretty disappointing at the lack of nutmeg, considering the great reviews for the Renaissance oolong from design-a-tea. Maybe I’ll have to add my own nutmeg (extra), but I’m still disappointing. I saved this one for last because it was the one I was most excited for. Oh well, it was still a nice cup.

drank Honey Bee by Design a Tea
2972 tasting notes

This was a free sample included in my recent order. I don’t consume animal products (including honey) normally, but I figured it is probably artificial and I didn’t want to know either way. I didn’t buy/pay for it and I don’t want it to go to waste.

It was actually very strongly honey flavoured, light sweetness from the rooibos, some fruity and floral notes, and a citrus/dry grass vibe from the chamomile. For someone looking for a honey flavoured herbal, I would recommend this. It reminds me of the tea I used to drink when I was sick that was honey/ginger/chamomile.

Another of the five samples I requested from design-a-tea, and I’m really happy with this one. The dry leaf smells intensely of rum, pineapple, coconut cream, and brown sugar, and it brews up a really rich amber (reminds me of dark rum).

The rooibos is delicious as the base, I think the slight woody flavour goes with the rum (reminds me of a rum barrel on a pirate ship), the pineapple is very good, some topical fruit notes too. I’m not getting much coconut, but the brew is it is smooth and thick-almost creamy. I think this would be amazing as a coconut milk latte.

drank Anise Rum Rooibos by Design a Tea
2972 tasting notes

One of the samples I ordered and ended up loving. I’m going to be reordering this flavour in my next design-a-tea order.

The anise is amazing, like licorice but without the gross metallic/sweet flavour. The rum wasn’t as strong as I would have hoped, but I enjoyed the combination. The rooibos tied the two flavours together very well, I can’t wait to get my hands on more!

My design-a-tea order came today! I’m very excited to try all my little samples. They are all rooibos based (because I need some new herbals in my life), and I tried this one first because I was excited for maple.

The red rooibos is very present, minerals, brown sugar, nectar, wood. There is a desserty (almost caramel?) note that I suppose is the zabaglione ( still can’t pronounce that word correctly) but I was hoping for more custard and cream. I do get nutty notes of almond and walnut, but I wouldn’t call it maple at all.
